I have updated Mac OS Big Sur. Since then I am unable to print. I have HP Laser Jet 1010 printer (and another HP Laser Jet 1102). I am unable find drivers for these printers for the curren OS version. What should I do?

For the LaserJet 1010, there are two ways that you could try. Ronasara already mentioned Gutenprint (there is an hp-lj_1010 driver), or you may want to check whether the new (post date Dec 11, 2020) HP Printer Drivers v5.1 for macOS package from Apple ( =en_US) has a working LaserJet 1010 (or possibly 1012/1015) driver.

As you no doubt know, when we do an update or an upgrade, we often must then update our printer drivers. The problems reported with HP printers have been presented here literally hundreds of times. I offer the following comments. (1) thoroughly check the HP web site for any potential drivers. (2) Download and try using drivers for Catalina. Some people have had success with that. (3) Ask HP when and if these drivers will be released. They do have customer service people there. (4) Visit the web site at the link blow. There you will find many drivers for printers that are no longer supported. They are written by professionals who volunteer their time. Hopefully, one of them will work for you. And next time you purchase a printer, remember who did, or did not support their customers.

I use my old but well working LaserJet 1010 printer, which is officially unsupported (no official driver). In the community I got solution, so I have a non-official driver to use the printer. Printing pages works well. But.

Because the proprietary language is probably only used by this one model (or perhaps several models in the 101x range?), I'd guess that neither MS nor HP consider there is a business case for spending money on writing a special Windows 10 compatible device driver for these old printers.

Come on HP - Provide Print Drivers for the Laserjet 1010 or provide instructions on how we can print to this printer in Windows 10 (32 and 64 bit). It's a perfectly good printer which I shouldn't have to throw away just because I upgraded the operating system. How hard can it be?

I had this problem with my HP LaserJet 1018 and HP support came up with a solution. When you are installing your printer and it asks what is your operating system, lie and tell it Windows 7, click Change and the drivers that appear include the old ones. It worked for me. I am finding that their support people do not all have the same knowledge or willingness to make the extra effort. The first one I spoke with tried to sell me a new printer.!

I would consider downloading a driver from the official support page. In your case, it is the following. -en/drivers/selfservice/hp-deskjet-1010-printer-series/5157543/model/515754... Opens a new window

I know I've had issues with HP 4000's (which I have drivers installed for on 10.7 computers) coming back as "no driver available" when installed on 10.7 systems that didn't already have the HP drivers onboard this past year. I tracked down that KB article in hopes of sorting it out, but most of my affected users have left, and were getting by on the "generic post-script" driver. Previously the printer install process would kick a software update to grab the drivers, and it would find them - lately the "no driver available" claim has been coming back, despite the fact that systems with the drivers are pulling updates to them just fine.

(two drivers: 1012 hpijs and LaserJet 1012 pxl1010 - were used, with the same result).
When i send test page to printer, nothing happens. In job status window there are the following fields: job-printer-state-message="open device failed; will retry in 30 seconds...", job-printer-state-reasons="none".

If the driver listed is not the right version or operating system, search our driver archive for the correct version. Enter HP LaserJet 1010 printer into the search box above and then submit. In the results, choose the best match for your PC and operating system.
