Southeastern Equestrian Trails Conference hosted by the
Chattahoochee Trail Horse Association this July!

The Chattahoochee Trail Horse Association (CTHA) is pleased to announce that the Southeastern Equestrian Trails Conference (SETC) will be held in Atlanta , GA on July 15 - 17, 2010 at the Atlanta Marriott Norcross hotel. After several successful years in Clemson , SC , the Conference has been hosted in several other southeastern states. This informative and fun conference is intended for trail users, land managers and anyone interested in horses and the outdoors.

 

Keynote speaker, Rick Lamb, author and host of “The Horse Show” on radio and RFD-TV, will speak about “Riding with Purpose”. Other featured speakers include Tommy Irvin, Commissioner, Georgia Department of Agriculture, Mary Morris, Deputy Regional Forester, Operations, Recreation, Engineering, USDA Southern Region, Rick Potts, Chief, National Park Service Conservation and Recreation Division and Dennis Dailey, Senior Advisor, Wilderness, Recreation and Trails, Back Country Horsemen of America. The 2010 Planning Committee combines the talents of fourteen CTHA members, members of two Georgia Affiliates of the Back Country Horsemen of America, members of Southeastern Endurance Rider’s Association, a Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest representative, a USDA Forest Service Region 8 representative, as well as equestrians from each of the Southeastern states.  The Conference, although held in the Southeast, draws attendees from across the USA .

 

The theme for the 2010 conference is The Art and Heart of Keeping Our Trails – Ride Smart and Do Your Part. The logo reflects the theme, with a trail rider crossing the host states into the sunrise. Topics cover a broad range of subjects, such as equestrians and politics, organizing volunteers, obtaining funding for trail projects, managing shared-use trails, trail design and construction, and environmental concerns. Exhibits showcase trail riding opportunities and trail related services. For an additional fee, a choice between three optional workshops is available including a Trail Design, Construction and Maintenance Workshop with Mike Riter, a tour of Cherokee County ’s newly opened Garland Mountain Horse and Hike Trails along with a tour of the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville , GA , and a Leave No Trace workshop with two Master LNT Trainers.

 

Through sponsorships and grants, the cost of the conference has been kept to a minimal $125 per person. The Conference Fee includes conference materials, Happy Trails Hour on Thursday evening, two Breakfasts, two Luncheons, and Dinner on Friday evening. Luxury accommodations at the Atlanta Marriott Norcross, a resort hotel, are offered at the SETC rate of only $79 per night. Transportation is available to/from Hartsfield Jackson Airport and to nearby shops and restaurants.
