Dear Family, Friends, and Supporters of Overton Debate,
This week we've had a series of activities and success. To begin with, we had our second annual National Forensic League induction ceremony and end of the year celebration at Pete and Sam's. To see the pictures from celebration, please visit:

We also competed at the Memphis Urban Debate League city championship tournament held at Christian Brother's University. After two days of intense competition, the following awards were given before the break-out rounds began Saturday night.
In the speaker competition the following students earned trophies for their public speaking skills:
18th- Michael Williams (first tournament ever)
13th- Aaliyah Malone
6th - Zenobia Armstrong
10th - Varsity - Olivia Campbell
2nd - Varsity - Keenon Fox
Coaches from across the league were asked to vote for the most improved debater from other schools and Nigel Greer from Overton was presented with an award for Most Improved Debater (JV).
Also, based on win/loss records throughout the entire year, awards were presented to the 5 most winning teams in both JV and Varsity across the entire league. Olivia Campbell and Earl Johnson earned the 5th place trophy (JV) and Keenon Fox and Kheadrick Caston won 1st place (varsity).
Coach Rader was also honored by his peers with an Excellence in Coaching Award.
Two Overton teams broke to the elimination rounds and won both their quarterfinal and semifinal rounds to compete in the championship rounds of the competition. In the JV competition, Aaliyah Malone and Zenobia Armstrong won 2nd Place and Keenon Fox and Kheadrick Caston won first place in the Varsity division.
This marks the second consecutive year that Overton has won the MUDL city championship. This will also be the third year that two Overton students will be traveling to NYC to compete in the National Tournament organized by Chase Bank and the National Urban Debate League. Kheadrick, Keenon, and Coach Rader begin preparing for this intense competition immediately. They leave for New York on April 14th.
Overton High school's team and coach are being recognized for their dedication to cross examination debate at the upcoming school board meeting on April 18th. All parents, supporters, and members of the Overton team are encouraged to attend and be recognized.
To continue this tradition of excellence, we are now seeking funding opportunities to send Overton students to debate camps this summer. Please contact me if you have any suggestions or would like to make donations to this end.
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement!
