Salam Alaikum
My name is Hassan Hares. I live in Bradenton Florida, USA. I have been studying tajweed over a year or so Alhamdulillah … and always felt that I am not happy with my recitation. When I tumbled over www.reciteintune.com I felt my dua’a had been answered. May Allah bless you Brother Idrees for .
I have been reading and googling trying to understand this sound and voice stuff such as Pitch, tune, Maqamat, tone, etc… Allah has guided me to prepare the below table. I am not sure how accurate it is as it represents my understanding. I thought of sharing it with all for comments and leaning from all and Brother Idrees. I included the table in text and graphic as I am not sure how it will appear in Google group.

SOUND CHARACTERISTICS
ITEM | DEFINITION | IMPROVEMENT POSSIBILITY
Pitch | frequency of a sound wave from low to high | Can be controlled with training
Range of voice | Distance from lowest to highest frequency | Can be increased with training
Tune | patterns of pitches variances up/down | Can be applied with training
Tone | Vocal quality & characteristics | Not really depends on vocal anatomy
SOUND APPLICATION | |||
Music | Quran | DEFINITION | IMPROVEMENT POSSIBILITY |
Melody | Maqamat | Identifiable & recognizable Tunes | Can be learned with training |
Rhythm | Tajweed | Sound duration of letters / pronunciation | Can be learned with training |
Salam
Hassan Hares

وعليكم السلام ورحمة الله وبركاته
My name is Ali Ibrahim and I’m from West Jordan, Utah.
For the past few years I’ve been listening to the Qur’an, memorizing slowly overtime, and trying to imitate the greats like Sheikh Shuraim and Muhammad Al-Ayyoub as well as Sheikh Khaleel Husary.
I’m 22, I graduated last year with two bachelor degrees in Marketing and Information Systems and last year got married alhamdulillah and a few months ago got a really good job alhamdulillah.
Although my life has recently changed for the good I find that I’m too busy (an excuse, I don’t make the time basically) to the Qur’an as I used to. I still listen to it when I can like driving or working late at night at the office but I find myself not reciting as much as I used to.
Insha’Allah I hope with this course that I can gear up for Ramadan and get my mojo back and continue it even past Ramadan insha’Allah.
Really looking forward to this course as improving my voice is something I’ve struggled with since I started reciting when I started college 3 years ago.
Wasalam,
Ali Ibrahim

as Salaamu 'alaykum waraHmatullaahMy name is Rabia and I am from Toronto/Mississauga, Canada.I am taking this course to enhance my recitation and to eventually learn how to be at ease when reciting.I am somewhat intimidated and became skeptic when I listened to the recitation in the 3 maqamaat we will be studying as I feel maqamaat is a men field and even if I try to reach a certain maqaam, my vocal folds won't allow it.
Currently, I am completely unaware what maqaam is suitable for me.So I have taken this course as a daring step in my recitation and to challenge myself more.
I was against maqamaat until recently and the person to change my mindset was br. Idrees, baarakAllaahu feeh. Some concerns I have had with maqamaat was that the reciters compromise tajweed rules, and listeners of the Qur'aan only judge one's recitation by how beautiful it sounds and not the meaning it conveys. But knowing br. Idrees and his approach, I got encouraged to take this course.I definitely need your du'aa to do well in this course :)JazaakumAllaahu khayrwassalaamu 'alaykum waraHmatullaah
