Maqam Saba Dr. Ibrahim Video Translation

I hope everyone is doing well and we have gotten used to including the Quran in our everyday activity after our Reciteintune class and Ramadan!

 

I'm writing just to let everyone know I just posted the translation of the maqam Saba video of Dr. Ibrahim Mahmood on Youtube; if anyone's interested they can view them in the comments section or below this email.

 

The videos for maqam Rast and Ajam are what are left, and inshallah those will come soon!

Title: Maqam Saba with Sh. Dr. Ibrahim Mahmood, Instructor at Azhar University

00:10 The second maqam we will discuss is maqam Saba. This is the maqam which is preferred in the recitation of the Quran in muratel style, because it has a sad mood to it; and as we know, the Quran has this quality/particularity. The Prophet 'alaihi salam spoke about this and said: if you don't cry than try to let it (the cry) come out (translation of meaning). And maqam Saba plays the role of what is asked of us in this hadith very strongly. Hence it is preferred we recite the Quran in this maqam a lot.

00:45 When we recite in tajweed style, it is preferred that maqam Saba is used to recite the ayahs of punishment and Hell and what is contained in the Quran of descriptions of these two topics--may Allah protect us from it, ameen. (I think he makes the destinction between muratel style and mujawad because by the hadith it is preferred to recite in maqam Saba, but in mujawad style people expect to hear a wider variety of maqams so we specify maqam Saba to recite ayahs of Hell and punishment).

01:02 States he will recite in maqam Saba in tarteel style [Surat Qaaf].

02.20 Mujawad Saba, Jawab (high pitch), Surat Qaaf. 03:44 Saba, qarar (low pitch).

04:24 Maqam Saba with Sika (branch of maqam Saba called Bistinkar, starts Saba and ends Sika).

04:44 Maqam Saba with Ajam (another branch of maqam Saba).

05:12 We recited in the maqam and more than one branch of maqam Saba (he explains them as I did above).

05:43 We can also employee maqam Saba in anasheds. He gives us an example 05:48 with words included.
