Assalaamu alaikum everyone,

Hope you're all doing well.  I'm just forwarding this email over our googlegroup since I know some of you updated your email address for this group but not for my original list ... just want to make sure everyone gets this message.

---------- Forwarded message ----------

Assalaamu alaikum admin,

Alhamdulillah, beginning next week I am offering small-group recitation sessions as an add-on to The Overnight Qari Course.  The point of these sessions is to help you further practice what you learned in the course ... I know the course went by quickly, so I want to spend more time with you to help you develop and improve your recitation.  Also, during the course I tried to keep an 'average' level in terms of the maqam examples we covered, but some students may have found those difficult to follow, while others may have wanted something more challenging ... so in these sessions you'll get the chance to practice at a level that's good for you.

Please read below for the details you need to know:

Registration deadline: Saturday September 8 (11:59pm, your time)

How to register:
1) Sign up here (http://bit.ly/Nd2DdE) by entering your name in only one of the available time slots.  Blue for brothers, purple for sisters.  Yeah I know kinda cheesy but it works :)  If there are no available slots, then kindly put your name in the "HELP! there's no space for me!" list on the right.
2) You also need to email me with a few details about yourself and your recitation goals ... for example:
- how much tajweed you have studied (or are currently studying)
- what you'd like help with in terms of your recitation/voice
- what you'd like to focus on (for example you might just want to focus only on learning one maqam)
- your objectives/goals/aims (for example you want to recite beautifully just for yourself ... or you want to recite publicly ... etc)
- qurra that you would like to recite like
- anything else that can help me better understand and address your needs/interests
- oh and please let me know your level in terms of what we did in the course: did you find the recitation examples we did a bit difficult, a bit too easy, or just right?

How long this will go on for:
Everyone who registers will get 4 sessions (each session is 1hr long; recitation time is approx 15-20 mins for each student).  Right now I've posted the sched for just next week ... this will help me gauge how many students are interested, and then we can complete the schedule.
Option 1: If only a few people are in the "no space" list, then I'll add a few more time slots to next week, and then we'll repeat the same schedule every week for the next four weeks (until Oct 6).
Option 2: However, if many students register, then I'll go with a Week 1 / Week 2 format whereby you'll recite every other week.  In that case we'll go until Oct 6, then take a break ... alhamdulillah I will be away for Hajj for the rest of October ... and then we can continue in November.

What we will (and will not) cover:
These sessions are meant to be added practice for what we covered in the course, however the focus is on recitation and practicing the maqamat.  So there are no "lessons" per se and we won't do exercises to strengthen breathing or those sorts of things ... we'll focus on recitation.  Those other exercises you should (hopefully) be doing in your own time.  Also, we won't cover other topics that weren't already included in the course, such as qafalat, or other maqams like saba, sika, etc.

Interested?  Sign up here: http://bit.ly/Nd2DdE

Jazakumullah khair ... and whether or not you sign up, please keep me and ReciteinTune in your duas :)

Idrees

Assalamualaykum Brother Idrees,

- how much tajweed you have studied (or are currently studying): I know the basics of Hafs An' Asim
- what you'd like help with in terms of your recitation/voice: Beautify it, develop more of a flow, find out what I'm doing wrong, be able to reach a qari level
- what you'd like to focus on (for example you might just want to focus only on learning one maqam): Maqam Bayati for first couple of sessions, then practise the others
- your objectives/goals/aims (for example you want to recite beautifully just for yourself ... or you want to recite publicly ... etc) For Allah, for myself, for public.
- qurra that you would like to recite like: Mishary Alafasy, Hani Ar-Rifai, Youssef Edghouch, Ahmed Fahim (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gb6Uxg_agP8&list=FLPEY142PqQEKeqx6HnORXQQ&index=7&feature=plpp_video)
- anything else that can help me better understand and address your needs/interests: Really open to all teaching methods, just want to beautify my voice as much as possible for Allah
- oh and please let me know your level in terms of what we did in the course: did you find the recitation examples we did a bit difficult, a bit too easy, or just right? Just right.

I signed up for 4-5 on Tuesday, let me know if I'm able to join Inshallah.

Jazakham Allahu Khayran,
Omer Jamshaid

- how much tajweed you have studied (or are currently studying)
Finishing my ijaaza in Hafs an 'Aasim with Sh. Uthman

- what you'd like help with in terms of your recitation/voice
Being able to stick with one maqaam and make transitions smoothly. Another aspect of my recitation I would like to work on is creating a larger range in my voice when I read. I would like to recite at a very low to high pitch when in salah

- what you'd like to focus on (for example you might just want to focus only on learning one maqam)
I want to focus on all the maqamaat we covered evenly

- your objectives/goals/aims (for example you want to recite beautifully just for yourself ... or you want to recite publicly ... etc)

Alhumdulillah, I speak at programs for high school/college age audiences, family programs, and a Khutbah here and there. So my focus is when I'm reciting in those times, as well as leading prayers.

- qurra that you would like to recite like

I like listening to Mustafa Ismail, Husary, Ahmed Nuaina, and others, but I don't feel like I would want recite like them because I feel my voice doesn't really match with any of the reciters I like

- oh and please let me know your level in terms of what we did in the course: did you find the recitation examples we did a bit difficult, a bit too easy, or just right?
I feel I was able to repeat after you pretty successfully, so I would like to continue repeating after you and getting your feedback
