In October we (in one vehicle) are planning to travel along the cut-line next to central Kalahari up to Rakops.  I did this in April 2011, it was dry then and we did it in two vehicles without any hassles at all.  If the conditions are the same, I would comfortably do it solo vehicle.
So my questions are;
  • being that the rainy season has not started (or just started), will/should the conditions be the same this time of the year ?
  • is the route up to Xhana pretty much the same ?  We are thinking of perhaps popping out there.

Conditions were so good when we travelled the Kuke Corner – Xhana leg (also solo, 2014 I think) that the wheels hardly touched ground J.

It was in the rainy season too, and most of that stretch is on flat sandy soil so I’d expect few if any issues due to water. You may have dry loose sand to contend with in October, of course.

Greg the route is well used and there are often local farmers on this route in their mostly, cruisers. you will be fine. Ive done it 3 times now and once just after rains and it was pretty dry.
