Morning all,

My 276 is telling me the battery is missing. Its definitely attached. Anyone have any idea why?

If it needs replacement, are these batteries available?

Thank you

Anytime a battery starts giving problems try cleaning the contacts on both the battery and the device, I've solved many irritating problems like this. Steel wool, sandpaper or a pointy thingy will work.

Will it work with my Oral B?

Hi Bruce

If you can't get hold of one, you can let me know. Radio electronics here in Windhoek stock them. I'm coming down to Cape Town in 3 week's time to cycle the Argus and can then mail it to you from there.

Regards

Johan

Hi Bruce,
I had the same problem a few weeks ago.

I was given the following advice by T4A members:

1. ....In additional to potential battery issues mentioned it could also be firmware. A specific range of older firmware caused exactly this behaviour – the GPSr would regard itself as fully charged but the battery would last barely minutes.

2. ..... mine did the same and I had to "teach" them to work efficiently. It does cause frustration and needs time and patience.  Although i doubt your internal battery is in good condition this will not be the cauase of the current problem you experience.

You must start by disconnecting the power lead from the car's 12 volt supply. Remove the battery from tthw GPS then plug in the cable to your wall 220/110 volt supply. The gps should start up. THEN while started and running, clip the battery in and leave it for a few hours. This should force some charge into the battery.  You might have to do this three or four times. You can also alternate between using the 220/110 volt and the 12 volt.

The important part is to connect the battery AFTER the unit is running.

In the end I bought a new battery in an electronic shop because mine was dead.

My insanity does not worry me at all, in fact I enjoy any moment of it!

Good morning Johan,

Apologies to chirp in.

I am interested in a spare battery for my Garmin 276C. Conveniently, I live in Cape Town and could take over the distribution from here.

Kind regards,

Uli

Morning All,

Thank you for the replies.

Johan, thank you very much for the offer. Let me first find out if they are available from Garmin who are just down the road from me. According to their website it is available.

Thank you

Hi Johan,

Thank you very much for the follow up.

My battery seems to be back to normal now, which is strange. I clearly have to use the 276 more (which is only used for trips).

Have a safe trip to CT.

Hi Johan

I may have someone interested in your other camping gear. Is it still for sale?

He is a missionary living in Namibe, Angola and is into overlanding (I guess if one lives in Angola, you have to 4x4).

I believe he would be a good contact for the rest of us too.
