I need to replace my gas cooker jet. But not sure what size I need,
Some say size 15, some recommend a size c. Which one gives the best
vuma? I was told that the larger the number the bigger the out-let
hole is, have No idea what the letter c stands for. Went onto Cadac's
web and there is No explanation of what the number or letters
represent.

Mike:

If it is the Budget Cooker - it is a #15 - should be printed on the stem
which accepts the jet.
Replace it with what you take out. Putting different one in will likely
result in problems.

#15 is the right jet for most Cadac cooker tops. Always carry a spare. BTDT.

If you email them from the Cadac website (contact us), they will respond with useful info on jets - they are pretty helpful.
I learned a lot from that.

Yep - and it takes a 11mm ring spanner. BTDT as well. Make sure you have one :-)

Before you replace ...is it blocked ...get a jet cleaner where they hang the
goodies. Mine died as well and nought the little cleaning fitting .....5
seconds and back to new.

Hi Mike,

Here's something to bear in mind for when everything fails and you're stuck with a blocked jet. Hunt around for a short bit of multi-strand electrical wire and use one of the strands to open it. Requires patience and may tax failing eye-sight and motor control, but it might just save the day ;-).

Kind regards,
Francois

Dump it into some coke for 30 minutes!

One can also get an "instrument" to do this. It has a flat handle with
a this wire attached to the one end that can be used to clean out the
jet. Can't remember where I got it from.

Spanner in the works, the new size 15 jets come now with built in
filter, that No wire will penetrate. Seems like Eric's coke trick will
crack it. Older jets will work with this cleaning kit. "I think"

New ones do as well, and the wire trick still works.
That filter can be removed (it is just pressed in)

Those jets are not that expensive.
Carry a few spares.
Keep a cover over your bottle outlet, and your burner jet to prevent dust
from getting to them (as much as possible)
Always blow the bottle a bit (open the gas valve fully for 2 seconds) to
clean it, and give a quick suck on the jet before you assemble.

If blocked, use the cleaner (which blows gas in reverse through the jet)
If still blocked, soak in meths or coke for 30 minutes, then use in cleaner.
If still blocked - don't be so cheap and use your new replacement!

:)

Me, I'd rather replace when on trip, and sort it out later when I get home.

The chromed round CADAC jet cleaner into which you screw the jet and then screw the cleaner into the bottle and open the gas tap (so that the gas blows in reverse thru the jet) has work for me time and time again for many a year.

And the cleaner fits perfectly into an old 35mm film container, thus keeping the cleaner clean too J

I bought one of those Cadac "Safari Chef" units that packs into a bag
and has a windscreen, wok, etc. Works fine, but it uses some odd jt
that no one (and I mean no one) keeps in stock. Trying to get a jet
from Cadac involved the local (CT) rep leaving it at a shop for me -
the shop lost it.

So - no spare and a weird jet. The kit is still sold at Makro but they
don't carry the spaer jets. So far, I've been lucky. - SteveP

Well, better carry a jet cleaner, some Coke, some thin wire and a spare
cooker top to heat it up then in case it ever gets clogged ;-)

And a torch so that you can see what you're doing, and a wet cloth to clean
your hands, and a ground sheet for when you drop the stuff on the ground and
can't find it 'cos it's so small, and a large bottle of spirits to take the
edge off SWMBO moaning about how the kids have not yet had their supper.

Of course......... you can always do what SWMBO and the kids REALLY want -
go eat at a restaurant! :-)))))
