Well maybe I am less tolerant and need that holiday next week more than I thought.... :)

I am trying to upgrade my maps to the new version. i registered my map when I bought it and have just recieved an email saying I am intitled to a free upgrade.
I used the link and found that I needed to now register on the website, which I did
Then I tried to Login using the link in the email and using the website and i get the following message.....

The Tracks4Africa Dowload Center

Content in this download center can only be accessed from links that we send out to registered map owners.

I mailed to ask for their help explaining all of the above and the response I recieved from them is :

Click on the link from the upgrade Email.

Thats it....no dear, no hello, no FU, no dont be stupid..... nothing...just the above ............

Funny this should come up as I tried to upgrade my maps this morning.
Registered, but can't acces the site from my "upgrade email" only my
"activation email", which is useless as I can't get the upgrade. They
are looking into it. Don't give up BT.

Bruce,

You are lucky to at least see the “The Tracks4Africa Dowload Center” site. I don’t get there. I only get the login screen and does not matter what I  tried, I do not get further than that. Even registered with new address but this does not help either.

Also got the “click on the link mail” but at least they replied.

I will buy new SD as I do not have time to sort this out, leaving for Botswana tomorrow early!

(Kwa Nokeng, Khama, Kubu, Nxai pan, Audi, Xakanaka, Linyati?? Savuti?? Ihaha, Vic Falls (zim side), Hwange (Havent booked), Padamatenga, maybe Hunters Road and then possibly through Tuli home.)

Cannot go without T4A and prefer the latest.

They should have kept the old links alive while they sort out teething problems. This is busy time!

Hi

I received the mail early this morning, clicked on the upgrade link, did the registration thing, waited for the activation mail, clicked on that which activated my account, clicked on the original upgrade link on the original mail, logged in and downloaded the upgrades. Couple of steps, but no problems encountered.

Regards
Andre

Hi Bruce,

I went through the same process and got the same result. After closing my browser and going to "the link" again, things worked and I could download the upgrade.

Speaking of which, if you don't get your download working in time, see if you can copy the download from someone in your area. I'm sure under the circumstances T4A will understand.

Enjoy your hols, I've got the same frame of mind but nothing to look forward to :-(((.

OK, I'll close this with a smiley for you at least :-).

Kind regards,
Francois

Hi Bruce, where you are going there is no real improvement from 9.10,
the big step was from 9.05 to 9.10 as the winter travellers came back
last year. Go and enjoy with or without 10.05 :-)

Hi Mike (sorry Bruce for jumping in on your thread)

I have followed the thread a bit, and have a question:

Are garmaps equivelant to T4A as far as detail is concerned? We are going to Bots and Zim for the first time, so we were looking at buying a garmin nav system, and then buy from T4A what we need
What would you advise?

thanks!

Kim,

Its no problem......dont listen to my complaints earlier, I need a holiday... :).....T4A are the best maps if you are traveling off the main roads into remote areas as all the tracks on the T4A maps have been recorded by people who have actually driven the route.

In my opinion Garmaps can not compare to T4A and do not suit my needs.

Buy yourself something simple like a Garmen 1410 and T4A on Sd card and you will have all you will ever need unless you want to get into the fancy data logging etc which I know nothing about.....

For actual tracks where you leave the official roads Garmap is not as
good as T4A.
For official roads, they are probably better and more complete in
coverage, but I would not trust them fully on the smallest official
routes, simply because these might have deteriorated to undriveable,
as is happening in the Zimbabwian hinterland.

If staying on the coca-cola route Garmap will be fine ... but start driving off the beaten track and you will need t4a

Agree, outside of SA T4A are the best. Inside of SA they are still great yet they do not offer larney things like auto routing in the major towns like Joburg. But then again that is not their target market.

Put it this way: if you are a courier service in South Africa then you NEED Garmap, but if you are going into Africa on a trip then you NEED T4A. Having said that Garmap does have all of Southern Africa on their maps yet in no where as much detail as T4A. T4A also are all proven (driven) routes.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

One of the Mikes ;-)

Hey Guys

thanks so much for all the response, now all I need to do is visit a bank at night, and get a bigger handbag for all the bits and pieces etc
Will get the garmin for SA, and then T4A for Zim, Bots, (and maybe Moz -depending on if we go by car or driver...)

Anyone in Zim / Bots from July 13th to Aug 1st? Would be great to chat with an ice-cold southerns... Really enjoy reading the forum, hearing stories first-hand would be even better!

take care
Kim

Bruce, I share your frustration boet.  I’ve also been at the wrong end of their service issues.   Mine started in October last year when I didn’t receive the upgrade from v9.05 to v9.10.  Various emails were ignored, even personal messages to Wouter and Bessie didn’t get answered.

Eventually in April after vowing to not buy again and to stop sending tracks, Johan Groenewald fixed the hassle – 6 damn months late!
