Yes, I know we can upload original file images to Flickr, but besides that what do the experts’ recommend as the preferred resizing tool?

You can use something like Irfanview to resize, or you can simply use the Flickr Uploadr to resize while you upload to Flickr.  Look in the Uploadr settings, look like a light switch.

Marc,

I’m no expert, but I use Easy Thumbnails for quick resizing..  download free copy from

Marc, I batch-resize using the Image Resizer in WinXP's PowerToys - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx  I've also got an old copy of Windows PhotoDraw 2000 (I think it came with WinME) that is really easy to use for image manipulation and adjusting.

“PIXresizer” is very nice for batch resizing of picture. Free download at http://bluefive.pair.com/pixresizer.htm

Google Picasa2 ! <without any doubt>

You want to use something that keeps the EXIF data and original
date/time creation info intact. Its all about the EXIF data. So forget
about using Paint Shop Pro, ACDSee and Irfanview (amongst other). You
also have to determine how much quality you are prepared to sacrifice in
favor of a smaller file size. The poorer the quality the smaller the
file. This also suck. IMHO Flickr has *the best* resizing vs quality
algorithm available. Nothing that I have encountered comes even close,
except perhaps for Paint Sho Pro, but it loses the EXIF data. The beauty
of Google Picasa2 is also its superior image enhancement tools and the
ability to update the EXIF data with lat/long GPS coordinates (geotag
the image) for use in "Location Aware" websites. I can harp on about
this all day long...

Yup, you are. I don't want to only keep my pics on Flickr, but also want to
be able to *send* the pics within, or as attachments to, emails <IOW
bypassing Flickr altogether>.

Some of the resize tools I've played with lose too much quality hence my
question. Your answer is comprehensive and understood:-) [no disrespect to
the others],

I'm gonna play with a couple of the options mentioned.

Ta to all

Hennie,
I believe you refer to ACDSee Std, because in ACDSee Pro you can configure the exif and IPTC info and the program does not wipe your exif info while you edit.
I can even update the IPTC info from the exif info in 'Batch set Information' process with Pro.
Further very usable highlight shadow function in Pro.
I do agree wrt Picasa2.
But I am slightly of the topic now, and I believe Marc did receive his answer by now.
Regards,
Hannes

I also use Powertoy Image Resizer.   Small, easy, functional and one less seperate application to start up and waste memory.

Agree, and very few things are simple AND free from Microsoft ......!  Why they don’t include it as std, well, I’ll ask Bill next time I see him.

If one loads high resolution pics/large files,.. can one share them? I would not like to clog up other peoples broadband with dodgy pics..  I see flickr etc as sharing and am trying to find a common  denominator..
