Hi all any one experienced a “vibration” on a Land Cruiser 4500 VX   after the suspension has been raised? Are there any adjustable drag links available?

Seen this mentioned on various Cruiser forums. The fix seems to be a castor correction kit.

Have they also installed the castor correction bushes? If not, your camber will be way off and the vibration could be alignment related.

 

You MUST put in the castor correction bushes

I assume it is an 80 series VX with SFA and permanent 4WD? (Later 100 VX had independent front).

The front prop shaft angles are all wrong, and now exaggerated with the lift, causing excessive vibrations (very similar to lifted Defender). The only real long term solution is a double universal CV joint at the transfer case end, and a cut/weld on the front axle casing to correct castor angle and the prop shaft angle. Even castor correction bushes, or other measures to correct the castor (modification of radius arm  brackets on axle, modification of radius arms, etc.) are relatively ineffective at solving the propshaft vibration issue. And castor correction bushes have a notorious short life when the vehicle is used where the suspension works hard

Of course the rear axle propshaft angles must also be correct. Transfer case output and diff input to be parallel at normal running suspension height.

Lifting any vehicle, especially with solid axles, is always very tricky to prevent/cure excessive vibration, and will always put more strain on universal joints (for solid axles) or CV's (for independant suspensions). As far as driveline vibrations are concerned, the permanent 4WD solid axle vehicles are already a compromise out of the factory, lifting just make them worse.

How much was the cruiset raised?

On my 80 series GX I raised the suspension by 50mm and even without castor correction kit had no problems.

Paul,80series gx does not have permanent 4WD so does not suffer the front propshaft vibration issues.

This is definitely coming from the rear prop , if it was a landy then it would be an easier issue ...

Yes, in Landy you could remove a propshaft. lock centre diff and go for drive. Unless modified, the P4WD Cruisers cannot lock centre diff in high range, so you cannot go fast enough to get to vibes.

I assume the propshaft phasing on the rear is correct?
