Morning,

So I need to start organising food for my Bots trip and wondered what others do for simple, easy camping food.

What do you do for breakfast, lunch and supper? I know, it’s a very broad question, but thought I might as well try.

Regards,

Graham, I was thinking about asking the same thing here, so I support you on the "broad question" and hope to get some good camping food tips too. I'm travelling with a mate of mine, 2 men, so any advise is more then welcome ;-)

Hi Graham,

What i tend to do when arranging trips for our groups, is we do a light get up and go Breakfast, especially when in a place like Bots when you need to get out early. Our Breakfast will usually just be Coffee and Rusks/Cereal (No cooking). Then we usually do a Brunch which will be when the need arises or when the kids start moaning. We usuaully pack this meal to go along and do en-route. Meals that go down well with us, are burgers, jaffles, "Moerby" Breafast, Hotdogs etc. The evening are your main meal which are usually, Steak Braai, Chicken braai, Potjie, Chops and Wors etc.

Hope this helps a bit.

Regards Brendon

Thanks for that tip John!
There does seem to be an English version (although as a dutch speaking person the Afrikaanse version would be pretty funny to (try) read probably), but I can't seem to find that book in any european book stores.
Same for the Jan Joubert book "4x4 Routes In Namibia", so I think our first day in Windhoek we'll be book shopping! ;-)

A 2 man camping trip is easy. Meat, beer, rum, Coke :-). Other than
this, I tend to take cheese and crackers and easy quick stuff like
tuna for lunches. Fruit, for as long as you can keep it fresh, is also
a good option.

If you're feeling adventurous try making beer bread. Then there are
all sorts of interesting ideas for potjies for the evening. I
occasionally do a coq au vin.
