I'm about the replace my ATX's, but they may not be available (or around
for much longer).

Right ... We all know that for heavier vehicles and serious off-roading,
everybody swears by the BF products. Problem is that they don't come in
15inch - and they are pricey.

I walked into TWT yesterday and they were wanting to sell me their
VELOCITY - RAPTOR A/T's. These are 'house brand' tyres made for them by
Continental and they seem to have the same price/performance as the
ATX's I want to replace (AT's for R1000-R1500 per tyre). They look sort
of OK, but I'm not sure on the sidewall performance.

The question to all the tyre guru's out there: Are these any good or are
there any other products that would be in more or less the same category
that will work or are to be recommended?

But of course BFGs come in 15 inch. I have them on my bakkie. However SWAMBO
has Hankook Dynapro on her Pajero at a good price and is an awesome tyre in
my opinion, cheaper than BFGs too.

The people that I have spoken to about the Velocitys have said good things
but I cannot comment as I personally do not have experience of them.

I have just come from our local Speedy in Somerset West (had Falken Wildpeak
ATX's fitted to my Ranger), and as official Firestone agents they assure me
that Firestone ATX's are freely available, are one of their top sellers, and
there are no immediate plans to discontinue them. They currently have 4 in
stock in 245/75R15. R 1690.00 each including fitment and balancing.

I have been wondering where this nonsense comes from about ATX's being
discontinued, buy your mention of TWT in your e-mail says it all - probably
a story on their part to try and sell you some other junk (ie Velocity
Raptors). One of the reasons I stopped supporting TWT about 2 years ago.

I'm reasonably sure that you will get BFGs in 15". I've been eyeing Hankooks
for a while now, and they may well be my choice for my next set, hopefully
not too soon (currently running BFG KM2s). The Hankooks seem to be getting
good reviews on the 4x4 Community Forum.

Best price I could get on any tyres a while ago was from Alberton Tyres -

Yes, BFG's are available in 15 inch, I have BFG 265/75 15's AT's on an old
Hilux, but will probably also replace them with Falken Wildpeak AT's when
the time comes. They are cheaper and give better performance and
reliability. (We have had sidewall issues with the last batch of BFG's,
which was not previously the case with these tyres).

I have no faith whatsoever in twat and wouldn't give their house brand any consideration. As BFG alternate consider Bridgestone dueller.

Hi all,

Firestone ATX 265/75/15 has been discontinued.

I have 2 of these brand new in the garage that I bought previously and now wanted another 3 as my set is getting thin.

Not available. Ecsh. What now?

This is a problem for me as I am getting +100,000km from a set, and no punctures. Now I must look for something as good, and also as inexpensive.

I don’t want to go down to ATX 245's.

Suggestions?

Anyone tried the Grabbers? They come in 10.5x15 (=265)

MikE
