Dear Feroza, Haddad & Alida

I trust you are keeping well. Sorry to impose on what is the last day of likely a busy week but as an Afrikaans person, I cannot stand by and allow blind stupidity to be presented on Kyknet as entertainment, without commenting.

I refer specifically to your program called Kamp dit Uit, which I will not be watching any further BTW, but more specifically the farce on the Baboons Pass portions. In general, the so called specialist on your program are even by minimal standards, are not qualified to present themselves as such. What was the goal to drag the caravan up an unpaved road with a Land Cruiser? If have watched this stupidity and apart from wooden acting, last witnessed in the Gr 1 school concert, this whole program has no merit what so ever. Not only was the environment damaged with this approach, but there was no consideration for the impact this destruction of an already difficult terrain will have on the local population and their use of this road in their day to day lives, never mind the eco systme that was abused. Who should be held accountable for the repair of said damages caused by your teams? Not only was excessive wheel spinning witnessed, that dug up and loosened the top soil that will now run off with the first sight of rain, leading to erosion, but the vehicles left the tracks and destroyed untouched areas to proof a point as the track was too difficult .....so rin eality ...they did not drive up Baboons Pass ..... they drove up next to Baboons Pass. Those idiots in the 110 Defender Land Rover are not specialists in any book but serve to strengthen the stereo type of stupid, bare footed Afrikaner that will enjoy his pass time, with scant consideration for the impact he or she will have on others. Let us say I was not surprised to note them with their favorite tipple at hand to bolster their courage ...."Boetie, hou van die Klippeis and Coke dan wys pa jou wat die V8 kan doen!" comes to mind. Pity it did not say Klippies and Coke for that would have been 100% in line with the perceived image of Afrikaners as boeppens, stupid, Klippies and Coke bafoons. But then, I missed the last episode so maybe you spared that gem of final wisdom for the final touch. I am sorry but I refuse to accept that those bafoons represent the Afrikaners any more than Robert Mugabe is the typical African politician.

If you consider the damages caused for no real reason, do you really wonder why South Africans have such a terrible reputation in our neighboring countries? How many people will now try to out do the Baboons Pass idiots by dragging something bigger and maybe even more destructive up baboons pass? Or could they justify that with Willie Nel's stupid remark .... "Dit skei die manne van die seuns" If he believes that proving your manhood depends on destroying nature, he is a stupid and pathetic individual that should not be allowed to operate under your claimed "4x4 Guru" banner or any other banner for that manner, definitely not on TV in any case. He should be left at an old age home where his senseless ramblings would unlikely be considered entertaining to this fellow senior citizens. His behavior is not the accepted norm, yet your credentials allocated may convince novice off-roaders that he speaks with authority and copy his example. Willie Nel is a disgrace and pathetic for presenting Afrikaners and 4x4 owners in this manner.

You owe it to fellow Afrikaners and  South Africans to redress this situation. Take that crowd of bafoons off the air and apologize for supporting such a worthless cause. You should be ashamed for presenting such dribble as entertainment. You have done more to undo the image that MNET has cultivated as an eco-conscious company that strive for a Green approach. Talk is cheap but your actions spoke much louder than all your claims to so called "Green Credentials". If any programming is likely to have any impact on our eco-system, it would be acceptable to have a specialist at hand that can guide those obvious lesser informed in a manner that would eliminate the impact that this action may have had on nature and if an instance do occur,  where unavoidable damage is caused, it repaired to as received or better after completion....no excuses and no exceptions.

I distance myself from both MNET and specifically the image presented by this program of Afrikaners as despicable, ignorant and pathetic.

I trust that I have not left out any concerns but may revert if I remember anything new.

Kind regards

Aubrey

Great article appearing under the heading "KykNet in hot water over 'destructive' 4x4
venture" in today's Cape Times, February 5, 2009.

Providing a synopsis of that which has gone down here on 'overland forum' - hats off to
Messrs van Rensburg, Visagie, De Bruin, de Lange et all. The piece is attributed to the
paper's 'enviromental writer' (do I detect the hand of Mr Weaver in the matter, perhaps?)

availably only to subscribers, more is the pity here given the nature and content but
then we assume that this is what one must do when making a living from 'sale' of
news/papers.

The article also features on P3 of today's Mercury (Durban).

And as Hennie says, 'nuff now.  Objective achieved.

I don't think Willie Nel will subscribe to the Overland Forum.

I surprised the Fil the Leper had nothing to add here ;-)
