Hi All

Does anyone have recent knowledge regarding transport of vegetables from SA into Botswana? Apparently the restrictions are supposed to be lifted as from April this year - can anyone verify this?
Doing a trip to Hwange, Chobe, Nxai Pan and Central later this month..
I assume the raw meat rules are still the same? Can one take meat from Kasane south to Nxai Pan and Central K?
Thanks as always :-)

The thumb rule about meat ( i.e. of cloved animals)  was always that you can transport it North and East but not South and West.
As Animal Scientist I have no idea about vegetables!  😜

The latest regulations are pinned to the top of the DriveBots group on Facebook. Despite this the officials still enforce their own rules randomly.

Alan ,
The only feedback that I can give relates to last year trip (mid winter ) ; we travelled to moz then came back to kruger NP and entered zim via beit bridge .
We did not travel further than inhassoro in moz as we were  told that the en1 to inchope was "finished" (feedback from local people in inhassoro and the coms dept in gorongosa).
So after kruger we entered zim via beit bridge .
The process was relatively easy to follow - about 3?4? different counters to follow then outside check was also easy (after clearance on the electronic board ) .
No issues with the police although we passed some road blocks to and from gonarezhou .
Only REAL issue were the ellies in gonarezhou and hwange NP.- very aggressive ! eg from robbins camp to long toms water hole - about +- 11km was always an issue ,with cows and calves ; same behaviour as we visited basically most points around robbins camp and between chipinda pools and the chilojo cliffs travelling most loops around .
Veggies -nobody asked anything ; meat - only at pandamatenga border as we declared and completly opened the caravan fridge for inspection  - we were told by the official that officially any form of meat ( vacuum packed or not was not allowed ); so we had to talk sense and she agreed to allow us to take the only meat left (all vacuum packed bought in bullawayo ) .
We went to the ritual of the shoes and vehicle through the desinfection station and after nata finally braaied the zim meat at manyane in the pilansberg .
Hope that you have a good and safe holiday !
Regards ,
Joao Felizardo

Alan ; just to let you know we were advised at matobo np that the road to main camp hwange was very bad so that was the reason why we decided to drop that completly came out of Zim and in again via Botswana to drive the +- 53km ?to hwange north section to robins camp ; the best we could have done ! We had a great quality  time camping at robins camp and explored/ visited most places around robins ( yes despite the agro Ellie's )....
Rgds

Hi Joao
We are heading directly to Robins, and then on to Ngweshla. About 2 weeks in total, then heading out again.
Why were the roads bad? - sandy/wet/bumpy?
Many thanks
Alan

We were told in Matopos and at the official parks office in bullowayo  that the road was full of pot holes and in very bad condition not good for the vehicle and caravan; so we bought good meat  in bulowayo and travel through a good road to plumtree to botswana and entered pandamatenga and then straight to Robbins camp.
Rgds

I am afraid I have no info as to what is allowed into Botswana. We crossed at Skilpadhek. Brand new, ultra modern post at the Botswana side, Pioneer Gate.

At the control point my wife used her very limited Tswana to chat with the official and we were sent on our way, without any inspection at all. We are due to cross two vet gates today, but as we are travelling south to north, I do not foresee any issues.

We did however loose our travelling partners at the SA border as my buddy Dawid brought the wrong passport, one that lapsed last year. They are now kicking heels in Zeerust, waiting for Courier Guy. They should catch up by the end of the week when we will be in Kasane.

Regards

Merwe
