Hi Gents

Mike's email re crossing the Limpopo got me wondering.

Following the post- election protests last year, it was clear that Mozambique probably wasn't the safest place to travel to. Now, almost a year on, the situation has lost media attention, and I have heard of some people who have been recently, and that things were ok.

But as far as I know no definitive agreement was reached between the government and opposition.

Does anyone know what the situation on the ground is like, and if it is safe to travel there?

Cheers,

Jean

No unusual activity on the Moz front lately.  Just the usual reports regarding the pitiful service and arrogant attitudes from the SA officials at Lebombo (Komatipoort) border.

Seems pretty peaceful at the moment.

Jean ' I hear the dw news for Africa (in portuguese) and follow the VM ( Venancio Mondlane ) you tube lives and channel ; he has now been accepted as the leader of anamola the new political party ! The support that he has is immense and from the youth and young adults to professionals and branches of the media ; it won't be easy with the corrupt frelimo but he is making inroads ! ... he and the new party have started campaigning ( virtually every time they speak in public or to the media ) ; but friends of mine with businesses complain about the lack of forex to allow them to purchase raw materials ; virtually everything is imported from SA ; the so called president ( another puppet of the regime that of course accepted the position after last year's rigged elections ) has now gone to Paul kagame to sign an agreement to allow the Rwandan military to assist with the insurgency in cabo Delgado;  I spent almost a month in southern moz up to inhassoro ( could not get to zim due to the en1 terrible state ) last winter and was yet again shocked by the level of poverty and the way rural people are just treated like cattle by the ruling corrupt regime !  I will not go back to moz in a hurry ;imo things can get worse at any given time ... but that is my perception ....
Rgds !
