What does a set of ARB diff lockers for a Defender (front and back) set one back these days?

Who fits them properly?

Thanks

One of the things that I can't understand about SA is why the companies that fit 4x4 accessories rip us off the way that they do.

I happen to have a Land Rover that's locked up at my home in the UK which is relatively well kitted. You've all seen the odd piccie here and there of it and the various bits that are attached to it.

I had front and back lockers fitted to the Mean Green Machine about 18 months ago by an expensive fitment centre in Oxfordshire. The whole kaboodel cost me just over £1,000. That included the compressor, lockers, switches, plumbing and labour. At 14.5 : 1 that should come to around R15,000. I've subsequently discovered that I could have had them fitted for a couple of hundred Pounds less, but we live and learn.

UK mechanics aren't shy when it comes to charging for labout. The only time I've ever taken a Landie to a mechanic for a service in the UK, he charged me £180 to change the oil and filters! (£30 worth of parts and £150 worth of labour.) British mechanics usually work on between £25 - £75 an hour.
There's a hefty labour component built into that £1,000 that I paid for those lockers. There's also customs duty, shipping from Aussie / China and VAT built into that price.

Here in SA we are supposed to have cheaper labour. Our shipping should be less (Aussie / China to SA is shorter than Aussie / China to UK). Our VAT rate is less than the UK and the price to land a locker in SA is less than landing it in the UK.

So why does a set of lockers cost £1,700 to £1,900?
Like many of us here, I'm also in business and have a nice car with a three pointed star, but I don't steal from my customers...

Because the South African business mentality is to do as little as possible for as much as possible and retire after one deal...Rather sell one set of lockers a month and make R13k profit than selling 5 and make R25k profit????

Hi Eben,

I have a front locker for sale, having stripped it from my D110 before selling it. Mail me offlist and we can squabble
