You have coordinates/contact details for Phirima?

Your other option would be to enter at McCarthy’s Rest, that way you have more accommodation options en route.

Cheers,

Francois

The travel time between Calvinia and Phirima leaves us with no margin for error. I don't drive Botswana after sunset. We wlll rather opt for a spot between Hotazel and the border.

Thanks

Douw,

Google Soetvlakte Guest Farm. Speak to Dorette Haumann.

They have a wonderful B&B as well as a Bush Camp!

Stayed there in Nov '12 and can recommend it highly!

Not far of the Hotazel road!

Johan

Douw,

Allow me to hijack your thread, it may help us both.

I'm also heading to Mabua in a couple of weeks coming in from the Tshabong side. I know we can buy firewood on the ZA side of the border, but are we allowed to take it across the border?

I may top up with the stuff on the side of the road before Mabua, but would like to have a primary supply before I do this.

You *might* get away with it, but likely not. Last time we went through, they checked me for firewood (but not Heine)

Just across the border, on the way up the Tsabong, there is tonnes of wood just off the road. Take a saw to cut it up. We collected a goodly amount there.

North of Tsabong, about 50kms, there is also lots and lots of wood available.

Speaking of wood, I found that if I wanted to take wood across, I'd stuff it at the back of my canopy with all the camping gear intentionally in a mess all over the wood covering it. Advantage:Heavily tinted canopy makes is so nuch easier. Oh also, when asked to open the canopy they just see a fat mess, they always just shrug their shoulders and immediately give up.

We generally have a few bags buried in the load, but you can’t take enough for an entire week.

Not in the winter time anyway.
