Hi
We use a Trangia stove, when hiking, which burns meths, it however gives off a lot  of soot, I think from the pink colouring.
I am looking for a fuel to use that will burn cleaner
Regards

Sjoe! As any one who has ever ridden on the Blue Train will tell you... (or
so I hear!) you can strain the colourant out with half a loaf of white
bread.

Why not try benzine? I have an old hiking stove which burns excellently and perfectly clean on it (has to be pre-heated though like a Coleman paraffin lamp)

I use benzine in my Coleman and MSR stoves - but don't know if it'll work in a Trangia

We have used our trangia for many years now and prefer it to any other.

You can now buy a gas burner conversion which runs off the small lgaz/coleman disposable type cylinders. It is much cleaner but not much quicker.

Gas is no good ay high altitude, we need meths or some other alcohol.
Benzine only works in a MSR type stove,  not an open flame one

Dave,

Don’t use benzene in a Trangia unless you like Molotov cocktails.

You can buy clear alcohol or filter the purple out which helps a bit.

The joy of an alcohol stove is that you can buy fuel just about anywhere and it is relatively safe to carry [over benzene]

The benzene stoves like the Coleman and MSR stoves are worth their weight in gold at extreme altitude and temperature.
