Hi all

My dad is stuck in Kruger with a suspected blocked fuel filter.

I know normally towing a vehicle with an auto box is a no-no. They are 26km from the nearest gate - do you think the gearbox would suffer damage if towed at low speed for that distance?

Vehicle is a 1997 pajero auto 3.5 litre V6.

Thanks
Paul

Hey Paul

I towed an automatic Cherokee for about 80km with no ill effects. I think you are supposed to have the engine on so that the ATF still circulates?

Hope thats helpful

Sam

Put the transfer box into neutral if it has that option, then no drive to the oil starved gearbox (pump not running when engine is stationary)

If it is a blocked fuel filter – why not just put a new one in, or bypass for short distance to gate for repairs?

That would've been my approach. Unfortunately my dad isnt technically inclined so cant replace it himself.

The fuel filter diagnosis is also a big guess based on symptoms my dad explained over the phone.... Could also be an ignition related electrical fault.

Or take the diff ends of the propshafts off and tie to one side. Then no risk of damage. Perhaps mark the flanges before removing.

Thanks for all the advice. They decided to play it safe and go the flatbed route.
