Has some one any recommendation for a Campsite near Galton Gate, apart of Etosha Roadside Campsite.  This one has two contradicting comments about the ablution Padkos.

Is the Hobatere Lodge still closed?

We camped at Alpec Bush camp about six km from Kamanjab to Galton.  Great people and place.

You miss all the excitement if you don't camp at Oppi Koppie in
Kamanjab. Delightful donkey baying and dog barking, with great shebeen
music until you fall asleep in the early morning. On Sunday morning you
don't need an alarm clock as you will be woken before 5 by a sermon,
delivered in the neigbouring township via some public address system.
The sermon lasted nearly 2 hours....all gratis.

Will make a note of Alpec

Emanuel will be at Oppie Koppie tonight - keen to hear his thoughts :-D
We stop at Oppie Koppie occasionally for a pub lunch, but I have never
stayed there. We have a wireless link (70km) from Oppie Koppie to
Etosha Roadside for our Internet access, our ADSL line is being
installed at Oppie Koppie, from there we have wireless repeater stations
on 4 farms to get the signal to Roadside.

Hopefully the donkeys are quiet tonight. It's also a weekday, so the
locals should be quieter :)

It's a perfect spot for your wireless access point back to your place.
The distances you guys can cover there wirelessly are much better than
what we can here in hilly KZN (I own a WISP here)

Cheers
Mike

Yes, I was amazed that they could cover the 70km distance with only 3 hops, and provide us with a 100 Mb/s link!

Great.  I can't remember which campsite number we had - it was the second last one up the hill on the left.  Nice site, but a bit far from the ablution.

Cheers

Hi Mike

That was probably site 4, there is no gravel on this one, but a lot of dust.

Ablution are not near, but we had places where it was worse.

Oppi Koppi is only not so good on Sundays , it seems. We were there during the week. It was convenient after shopping for the next leg of our trip.
But Alpec & Etosha Roadside seem more in the bush spirit of things.

Piet, those are the Etosha Roadside camp sites. We are currently in the
process of upgrading them, but are trying to keep the "rustic" appeal.
They were very run down and in need of a lot of maintenance when we took
the site over, we are getting there slowly! The camp sites were
previously called Hobatere Camp Site.
We'll have some lodge tents available by the end of September as well.
Cheers
Glen
