Hi All

I normally use ORRA 1 which is on 152.6625 ,but also occasionally ORRA2
which is 161.1500 and then to add to the confusion the LCCSA is on
149.0375 .

I know that on HF such big differences would seriously whack your SWR ,
but I don't know if it is as bad on VHF.

So do I take the pain and just trim my antenna for the middle somewhere
, or do I carry 3 whips ?

Hmmm whips , now my mind is going elsewhere :-P

Thanks
Heine

Trim for the centre. On VHF it not as serious ...

For OPTIMAL send/receive, different whips.

BUT, if you go for the short antenna (1/4  wave) then

Frequency          ½ Wave                5/8ths wave       ¼ Wave

ORRA 1                 152.6625              982mm                 1228mm               491mm

ORRA 2                 161.1500              930mm                 1163mm               465mm

LCCSA                   149.0375              1006mm               1258mm               503mm

Averaging out the 3 on ¼ wave = 503-491=12mm / 2 = 6mm = 491+6 = 497

SWR will be fine across all of them then.

However, please keep in mind that the HAM radios really don’t like that 160+ frequency range. Drops power output down to single digit watts

The two lower ones are better for range and power.

So let's forget the top one then and trim to 497 on 1/4 wave ?

Yup – carry a spare whip for that one that is perfectly tuned – the radio will battle enough as it is.
