I see that there are several transit roads, such as

From Khwai/ Moremi north gate to Linyanti. Where does the transit road go after reaching the Linyanti river.
Mababe village at the entrance to Savuti W to Seronga & then NW to Muhembo. Is there any interesting bush or wildlife to see especially along the stretch from Mababe village at the entrance to Savuti W to Seronga?

Any others? Worth travelling?

What is one's legal position? Does one need permits to travel on them? Presumably if night falls before one gets to an official camp one can bush camp?
Clearly one needs a permit in the KTFP to travel the transit road from Kaa gate to the SA side.

Thanks a lot.

Nope, that road is open to all. But you can't bushcamp inside the Park for obvious reasons.

Let me add a proviso, you'll have to have a booking for the Park to use it.

Thanks Rob.
& does anyone have any knowledge of
(1) the transit road across the N of the swamps, Khwai Community to Seronga (I doubt a booking would be required to take a road between villages(?) &
(2) the other N ( Khwai Community to Linyanti)? Hope no megabuck booking required to Linyanti, but it's nevertheless worth it.

Cheers

Dave, last I heard on the road from Seronga to Khwai was that there were a couple of river crossings that made it all but impassable. That would obviously depend on river levels though. I think your biggest problem on that route would be the concession owners. I think you'd find they'd move you on quite swiftly.

My info was from speaking to people involved in that area a couple of years ago, so isn't gospel.

No idea of the Linyanti route, but I would imagine the same applies.

Dave we did the transit Road from Kwai to Mohembo. Very sandy in sections, good bush camping spots. Only problem was the Bots Military vehicles driving on the transit road coming towards us on the narrow tree lined twin tracks, fortunately the bull bar was stronger then the trees. When we got to the Vet fence we inquired about permits etc and the Ranger there said non was needed but some of the concession holders try to chase you off saying that it is a private road but this is not the case if you stay on the main transit road. Be careful in the wet season, lots of water crossings and I have heard of people being stuck there (Wade Bowman and their travelling span)

Regarding the roads around Linyanti marked on T4A as “Transit”, I would imagine only Rob’s proviso of a parks booking would apply. There’s basically no way of reaching those without traversing a park.

However, if you refer to the riverfront tracks running SW from Linyanti, the situation there is a bit messy. Roadsigns mark one of the tracks as “Transit”, and the other as private IIRC. In the rainy season one track would become impassable at places for various reasons and join the other. This has led to us arriving at one of the concessions from the “Transit” track at that point, and to say that they were hostile would be an understatement.

SKL operates Linyanti and the latest camping information I have is:

SKL ZAR 250 +2676865365 / +2676865366 / +2676863369 / +2676250113 reserv...@sklcamps.co.bw sklc...@botsnet.bw conniem.m...@info.bw mapul...@info.bw renlmap...@info.bw

There’s also a tented camp which is pricier.
