Apologies for this off topic issue, but just to inform those who are
going down to KZN coast via N3 Harrismith at Christmas, please take
note that this camera has been in server error since early 2010. I
have reported it since, and NO corrections done.

The sign Board used to say Km80 along this stretch going in a
northerly direction, I saw the sign approx 300m before the bridge at
S28.26716 E29.13396. the same sign, for the same speed at the bridge
itself, it flashed at me going Km60. This year the two signs have been
changed to Km100 per hour, it flashed at me doing now Km80. Please be
warned.

Regards
Mike

Mike:

Yup - my son borrowed my Yaris earlier this year, headed down to DBN. He was
warned that I would charge him triple any fines he collected.
He got one under that bridge.

I checked - there were 2 loggers running in the car - he was doing 76 kph -
and got a fine for doing 76 in a 60 zone!!!
Signboards at the time were 80kph.

I think this is a pure fraud situation - how many people would actually
bother to fight a R200 fine (if you pay early - R100)?
So they get away with it!

Cheers

This topic was discussed here this weekend about cameras in and around Dbn
and Pmb. Apparently they are doing the same

- but -

the speed limit is set to the lowest applicable for that stretch, eg trucks.
All vehicles travelling at a faster speed than this are photographed. Then
they are sifted afterwards, and all photographed vehicles travelling at the
legal speed are discarded.

In theory this works.
In Africa - I doubt it

Well Mike I hope this is the case, their will be a piece of cardboard
covering my plate where I know sh!!t happens, I might need to take
stupid action, but thanks for the extra info needed.

Ah that makes sense now. While on holiday recently in Ballito on the N2 north going over that wide river near that fancy shopping centre we were photoed and I was sure I was below the speed limit. A couple of weeks later I got a speed fine in the post showing that I was doing X speed in Y zone and the fine was zero. Seems a lot of extra admin being created.

It is high time that they got this working, and I fully support it, if they get it right.  So far trucks have been going past 100 and 120km/hr cameras at these speeds without fear.  The extra revenue they get now will more than make up for the extra admin.

From your post it sounds like they have some auto recognition system detecting cars and ldvs, which sets the fine at R0.  Beats me why this has to be sent out?

Cheers
Mike
