Hi All,
I was getting an intermittent suspension fault on my Disco 4 back in January and asked on Campfire who had a diagnostic tool to find the fault. Bruce T offered to let me use his and finally about a week ago I got round to checking what the fault was (The car spent February at the panelbeaters after a minor bumper bashing).
For those who own a D4 and get intermittent suspension errors (Normal height only available, suspension fault, etc) my fix was relatively simple
The two suspension DTC codes shown up by the diagnostic tester were C1A20 (Pressure Increases too slowly when filling reservoir) and C1A13 (Pressure does not decrease when venting gallery). Googling the two codes together lead me to believe that the problem was possibly one of two things. Firstly the air dryer was blocked and secondly the compressor exhaust valve was faulty. Land Rover told me to replace the whole compressor (R14K) another mechanic told me it was repairable but had to be sent out for rebuild.
There are many clips on the internet showing how to fix the compressor exhaust valve and drier. Despite the dealer telling me they don't repair the compressor, they do sell a service kit for the valve. R200 gets you an o-ring, spring, and an exhaust valve (P/N LR020590) - expensive for what is in the kit, but still affordable.
Stripping the compressor out took just over 30 minutes, servicing the exhaust valve took 5 min, disassembling the air drier, filtering and microwaving the desiccant beads another 30 min. 30 min to replace the compressor. Problem sorted for R200 and 1.5 hours of my time. The air drier is available from LP4A as a replacement part for R1200 (VUB504700)
Seeing the usefulness of the diagnostic tool in diagnosing the faults, I invested in the same unit as Bruce T. The icarsoft i930 cost me just under 2K and reads and resets all DTC codes on the Disco 2,3,4, Freelander, and RR, RR evoque and sport.
Hope this helps someone
