are they 180 process point oke's? ( I'm at work now, unable to verify
rude and patches )

I have another 180 I designed you have to check out. It works well ,
I'll explain more on my blog later and load onto competition page for
180 tournament over the weekend.

Rude2Point was unfortunately not 180 point, and will likely not se
much more action on the battle board. Unofficially there are two
categories for starter OKEs "180" and "No Upgrade" Rude2Point is in
the No Upgrade catagory. I tested a 180 point version but it resulted
in alot of stalemates Well technically Speedy's 180 won each time but
nothing was destroyed. Both teams just sort of ran out of ammo and
gas. thats why i named mine rude2point. cause after we emptied our
ammo, my 180 oke just stood there while speedy's pointed its empty gun
at it. I promise to get an official 180 up this weekend. One that is
aggressive enough to either kill or be killed before the 40 uhh...
units... of gas run out.

OK, then I will at least enter my no upgrades quickie test i posted "OkeHack1" when I first got my emulator going. I will also try to get a "real" build in there.

I redesigned my patches OKE. It's now a 180 class with completely new
software that could actually stand a chance.

The redesigned version is now uploaded. I'm interested in seeing how I
do with something designed specifically for this competition.

Once again, I'm glad to finally see competitions going. This gives me
the opportunity to actually get better at Carnage Heart. I've made
quite a few cool programs by beating my own programs, but that can
only take me so far.

Wow! Lets get ready to rumble!  Expect videos for the official 180 tournament with in 48 hours!   There where a few things preventing me from focusing on this hobby last week. Sorry about the absence.  I assure you all this, is not just a passing spike in interest. I'll verify I have working copies of every 180 deployed, re-save everything so it all fits on two cards and get recording.
I'll wait with running the grapple challenge until the 1st of march, give us all time to come up with something.
Good times!

I didn't think about the fact that you would have to transfer all those files to two mem cards until you said that. It won't be too bad with these early builds, but if we start getting a few more guys in here and with more complex designs later on... that could get to be pretty exhausting.

What about if instead you set up a tournament bracket and ran the battles two mem cards at a time keeping track of winners on the bracket. You could do single or double elimination and make sure each oke battles each oke, (unlike the built in bracket which I hate because there is always one unit that gets a free pass to the final round), it would probably be less time consuming and less prone to error than transcribing all those builds.

What is this American gladiators?!  now that's a game idea, robots competing in A.G. style competitions. more interesting than just shooting each other :D  "Next up, Vallient 'ACE' and Tank 'Cannon Fodder' go head to head on the eliminator!"

But seriously, manually conducting the tournament is the best route, I can better plan the camera movements.  I didn't realize there was a free pass.  I'm guessing it's due to odd number of contestants?

I'll cook up something... I still need to pull the trigger on my own 180 and deploy it.

I fully expect all my designs to fail miserably, I have been so excited about finally having a way to pit my builds against other players that I have been unable to focus on any one build, trying to get as many okes into the fray as possible in the one week since finding this site.

Now that I have all my systems in full functioning order I will get down to some serious building.

Here are some general points I came to realize just this morning.

1. When building for a one on one battle you can spend less programming space watching your back... he shouldn't be able to sneak up on you.

2. Just because a design works in the game doesn't make it a good idea in the battle arena.

3. Save a little something for the end game.

Happy hunting to all.

We appreciate and share your enthusiasm.  I don't think there has been such an ambitious effort in the history of this game to compete on-line, mainly due to the lack of technology, emulation on the pc and to easily share & download game saves without access to a dedicated ftp service.

Previous efforts required manual transcribing, which is in most cases more effort than its worth.

I have a feeling that if more like you show up, this community could kick some serious ass.

Thanks Soule,

What can we do to get more players? I have always tried to share the
game with my friends, but most prefer the action oriented games. There
must be more game connoisseurs out there!?

That's always been the big challenge with this game. It's in such a
unique category that almost nobody even knows about it and most of the
ones who do aren't interested.

I've always tried to share Carnage Heart as well; but, over the years,
this has proven to be an incredible challenge. Honestly, I was
pleasantly surprised just to see this group get this far.

I can guarantee that there are plenty of people out there who would
like Carnage Heart, but getting them to play it is no easy task. I
wouldn't even know where to start except to keep doing what we're
doing now. If nothing else, I would hope that some good competitions
would attract the attention of anyone who still plays regularly.

Activity will hopefully attract others.  Those who actively seek information about this game. As for new players, we need a fresh new start.  A modern game with the same concept as carnage heart.  One that is better designed visually.  They exist in Japan as recent as 2006(?) For the PSP.  That's no help for our non Japanese speaking players. It's a complex enough game as it is.  I'm waiting for a moment where my table is clear enough to attempt at least a simple prove of concept, game in either flash, or some other easily accessible engine.  For now, the idea C.H.I.P.S. will have to remain a vaporware fantasy.

Well said. To prove your point; I played some EZ last night to try to get a handle on the menu system and try some of the new features. It was fun and I like many of the small changes and additions. I built a couple okes and was feeling pretty good. Then I navigated to the save game menu and found the exit game button. Ooops, two more okes lost. It's a good thing the game is so good.

Yikes! maybe we should, have a good look at EZ and come up with some sort of interactive pictorial guide (an embedded google presentation should do the trick), something that simulates the menus which players could run side by side with the emulator.

or is this OverKill?
