The manual offers a sneak peak inside the more sacred of Apple retail store space - the Genius Bar - and showcases some of the odd quirks of life as an Apple employee: "psychological mastery, banned words, roleplaying," to name a few examples uncovered by Gizmodo.
First off, training classes take a total of two weeks, covering such topics as, "The Power of Empathy" and the oft-maligned "Fearless Feedback" program for offering candid suggestions to fellow employees, as well as more technical instruction like, "Wireless Networking."
Apple Store employees are given methods for responding to common questions and complaints with empathy - "I know you how feel," followed by an explanation - and receive a list of words or phrases that are verboten within the hallowed halls of Apple retail.
Take Apple's idea of a common interaction between employees when one's looking to offer another feedback: "Hi, fellow Genius. I overheard your conversation with your customer during the last interaction and I have some feedback if you have a moment. Is this a good time?"
iStore is a leading provider and installer of solar energy solutions. Our quality and design processes, combined with our years of experience in the solar industry has enabled us to develop a world class solar hot water storage product.
The iStore utilises an ingenious technology to efficiently transfer thermal energy directly from the surrounding air and into water, without dependence of the sun or fossil fuels to provide an energy source.
Smart and efficient unit
The operational costs can be up to 75% less than that of an electric water heater, and can be installed in locations which are unsuitable for solar hot water heating.Safe and environmentally friendly
Produces no harmful gases along with no open flame, making the unit safe to work with when installing.
As water is used in the home, the cycle will restart once the temperature in the lower section of the tank has dropped 11 degrees below the target temperature.HOT WATER CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY
THIS WATER HEATER IS ONLY INTENDED TO BE OPERATED BY PERSONS WHO HAVE THE EXPERIENCE OR THE KNOWLEDGE AND THE CAPABILITIES TO DO SO. THIS WATER HEATER IS NOT INTENDED TO BE OPERATED BY PERSONS WITH REDUCED PHYSICAL, SENSORY OR MENTAL CAPABILITIES I.E. THE INFIRM AND CHILDREN.
Hot water systems can store water at temperatures that can cause scalding. Water temperatures over 50oC can scald and care needs to be taken to ensure that injuries do not occur through incorrect use of your water heater. If the water heater is left unused for two weeks or more, a small quantity of hydrogen gas (which is HIGHLY flammable) may accumulate in the top water cylinder. To dissipate this gas safely it is recommended that a sink or bath hot tap be turned on to dispel a couple of litres of water. During this procedure there should be no smoking, open flames or any electrical appliances such as washing machines or dish washers operating nearby. If Hydrogen is discharged through the tap, it will make a sound like air escaping.
The installation of the iStore solar hot water systems requires the expertise of a licensed professional. The installation process must adhere to the guidelines set forth in the National Plumbing code (AS/NZS 3500.4), Australian Electrical Wiring Rules (AS/NZS 3000), as well as all applicable local plumbing and electrical regulations.
The electrically operated components of this water heater operate on 240v AC power. The removal or attempted alteration of any electrical component must be conducted by a qualified electrical service person.Care should be taken to avoid coming into contact with any pipe work or fixtures associated with the water heater.
For units manufactured from January 2023 ignores timers with the same start and end time, that is 00:00 on through 00:00 off will not activate as 12:00 on thru 12:00 off will also not activate. On and off times should have differing minutes also to ensure the desired period is achieved. For example for a full daytime timer a start of 10:00 on thru 16:00 should have the minute increased to 16:01 to confirm the timer window operation.
NOTE: Do not set the second timer to 00:00 ON and 00:00 OFF as the unit will commence heating at midnight every second night. To leave the second time off simply allow the timer setting to timeout after setting the first timer end time.
Electric heater settingHome Owner MaintenanceTemperature and Pressure Relief valve PTV/PTR (all tanks)
The iStore hot water system is fitted with an 850kPa PTR Valve, which is located on the side of the cylinder and is essential for its safe operation. It is important that you operate the easing knob or lift the lever on the PTR valve once every 6 months. It is important you rotate the knob or lever gently so seat is not damaged.
Expansion Control Valve (ECV) (if applicable)
In some states and local councils, the installation of an Expansion Control Valve (commonly referred to a cold-water expansion valve) is required to be installed. If this valve is fitted, follow the same procedure for PTR valve as explained above.Condensation line
Regularly inspect the condensation line to ensure water is dripping freely for the line. If the condensate drain is blocked at the discharge end, clear any debris that may have collected in the line. During normal operation, condensation occurs from the transfer of air across the evaporator coil. This process is drawing humidity from the air and creates condensation/ water droplets on the coils, which in turn is captured in the fully moulded condensate tray and discharged through the condensate drain line. In locations with humidity greater than 80%, up to 5 litres per day can be expected under normal operating conditions.
Obstructions
Regularly check the no obstructions are interfering with the air in-take or air discharge. If unit is installed near shrubs or trees, keep them trimmed so they do not interfere with air flow.

I am happy with the one I had installed in October 2019. My location on the NSW littoral at around 33 deg. latitude does not get very cold so I decided that the extra cost of a CO2 refrigerant unit such as a Sanden would not be justified. I like having the tank as one side of the heat exchanger because this design does away with the need for a circulating water pump. The previous owners of the property had installed a Rheem mpi325 and the water pump was always needing attention.
The iStore is essentially the same as the EVO and I found that the EVO manual which can be downloaded from the net is easier to follow than the iStore manual when setting up the timers etc. That said, I'm still not sure if the anti Legionella heating cycle is correctly set up on mine.
My Bosch Instantaneous Gas Hot Water System was leaking but still useable. Now the Bosch Continuous Gas Hot Water System has been decommissioned and the main town gas supply will be disconnected soon.
We're planning to get one too. Contemplating between 180L & 270L. They're saying 180L is the newer product and much energy efficient but I'm concerned about less hot water. Our two teen age boys takes at least 2 showers a day.
I'm in North QLD and ended up getting it for $1795 delivered and was installed around Aug last year. We ended up with the hydrotherm because of the overall good feedback and larger capacity (260litres).
Installation wise was basically identical to a regular electric system however the only major difference is that the hydrotherm is wired to a flex cable with a regular 10a plug on the end. We ended up fitting an isolator to it and hard wiring the flex into that to run it off the existing circuit.
I have just had a warranty job done on my iStore 270. Noticed one day that it was running longer than the 2 hours or so that it usually takes to come up to our set point of 55 . Looked at the control panel and noticed that the temperature was 58, the fan had stopped but I could hear the compressor was still running. I shut the unit down from the isolating switch.
Turns out that there is a known problem with a component on one of the circuit boards. The firm that supplied and installed the heater had a supply of modified boards available and soon came around and fitted one. The service person said that they had done a few and that some units had eventually tripped on high temperature and had to be reset as well as replacing the board.
I got an iStore 370L installed last August for $3250 and it's been going fine since. 2 year warranty on Refrigeration and Electrical and 5 on tank. Sanden is 6y but costs more. The company that installed it only installs iStores now as they said they have had too many failures on other brands and the iStores have been very reliable.
Laughed hard at how bad that process is. Hopefully the trade-off for having the interface only accessible by removing the case with a screwdriver and the panel from a also screwed in interior mount is longevity.
I had a reminder today that although the iStore timer keeps time while mains power is not available, any operations that are timed to happen while power is off won't occur retrospectively when power is restored. We had a power outage today and after power was restored I noticed that the heater was not running at a time of the day I can usually hear it running ( a plus for a slightly noisier unit, I guess) and I had to do an 'on' operation at the screen. We probably would have had somewhat cooler water for our next showers if I hadn't noticed.
I don't know if the timers on other heaters work like this too or they go the the state they should be for the time of day when power is restored.
