I think better that share in patchstorage is just share the image, beginers will learn more patching by themselves that patch ( I m beginner and I learn much more trying to reproduce patches than downloading it ).

perhaps a brief explanation is missing, one of the most odds things of the modular synthesizer is (at least it was to me) what the VCA do, at that point if you are not totally clear about what the voltages do the VCA is really singular piece

Fair enough! Definitely a step past the sequencer/subtractive thing I agree, so I would for sure start with a patch just like yours(as I did when I started learning). I just thought there might be a couple lessons/concepts to learn in one really simple patch to set up that just gets wired left to right and explore from there to learn the what & why.

Eurorack-blocks is an awesome project, but my understanding is that it mostly abstracts the Daisy platform (libDaisy) with its own thing in order to support a wide range of configuration. This is mostly for people who already have a Patch at home and are using libDaisy directly in their project.

Actually, Eurorack-blocks has its own abstraction of what is a CV, button, etc. And then we have concrete implementations for the firmware (using libDaisy, but could be something else), or the simulator (running in VCV Rack).

I need to build up a 42U rack with Patch Panels and Switches. I will have 3 - 48 port switches and 3 - 48 port Patch Panels. Am I better off lumping all the patch panels together and switches together or interchange them with cable management spaces? The interchange seems better as I can manage the cables better, but it will consume more space. Attached is what I am thinking of. Looking for suggestions and/or pics.

We do it with an interchange. 2u 48port panel, 1 1u wire managment, 1 1u 24 or 48 port switch depending on the desinty in that area of the panel (most are 24port), then start over again. most of the patch cables on the rack are 1 foot, with specialty ones being longer and going into the cable managment to make the transition to where they need to. I have doing it this way whenever possible for the last 15 years with very few problems.

I staggered mine: Patch-Switch-Patch-Firewall-Patch-Switch-Patch with 1 foot jumpers from the patch panels to the switches, all in a row nice and neat. Now I have a few not so neat cables due to having to add new phones and access points to a switch where only half of it is PoE (by design)

With 2 24 port patch panels per 48 port switch, and cable managers that makes a switch/patch group take 5U Min. So a 42 U rack would fit 8, assuming you have nothing else and want to lay on the floor to do cable punch downs.

That is exactly what we do. It works great, makes troubleshooting much easier, and allows entry level support to do more of the work. The only thing we do different is instead of the blank panel we use one with hooks on it. That way you still have something to manage the 1 or 2 stray cables.

As some here obviously are able to import patches, but neither in the manual nor elsewhere on this site it is explained, I needed to open this thread. I bet its simple, but certainly not obvious if you don't know it...

I suggested to have Drambo automatically save a .drmodule preset into the correct module preset folder and offer the user to use that module with that preset immediately... Dunno what others think about it.

@bcrichards To load a downloaded project file, you can copy it to the Drambo/Projects folder in iCloud, then just open it from the Drambo hamburger menu ("Open" and select iCloud at the top). In order to share the file from another app, the sharing menu needs to show "Copy to Drambo". Chrome and FileExplorer do this, and it works. Most others (Safari, Files, etc.) show "Open in Drambo", which does not work. Drambo opens, but does not appear to receive the file.

@hypnopad @Tj_Shredder With the updated Drambo 1.02, it appears that "Open in Drambo" now works from apps that offer it, e.g. Files. There's also an "import file" option in the Open item of the hamburger menu which works too. So importing downloaded .drproject files should no longer be a problem.

While we use a symbol language for patches in the PATCH & TWEAK book, we also recommend trying out the different patches in the free VCV Rack software available for Mac, Windows, and Linux. We collaborated with VCV Rack expert Omri Cohen who created 50 patches that you can download and study, experiment with, and build on.

All patches are labeled with page number and title, and mention the free VCV Rack 2 libraries used. You will need to download the different (free) plugins to get the most out of the patches. Here are the necessary links:

The MetaModule comes with hundreds of built-in modules from 4ms Company, Befaco, HetrickCV, NonlinearCircuits, and Scanner Darkly, plus clones of popular classics such as the Mutable Instruments eurorack modules, fun physical modeling algorithms, and lots of handy utilities, with the ability to add hundreds more via plugins.

All of the included modules are also available on the computer using the free program VCV Rack. Whether you make patches on VCV Rack and transfer them to the MetaModule, or if you just create patches directly on the MetaModule, there are plenty of creative modules to inspire new ways to make music.

I have a lot of patches done in the desktop version of VCV Rack - how easy is it to move patches between the desktop and the iPad or iPhone?
It seems that the modules available for miRack are different, so is it even possible?

To minimize power usage and CPU resources for other programs to use, disable multithreading by selecting 1 thread.Using more threads increases CPU usage but increases the maximum number of modules you can use in the rack.

It is recommended to begin with 1 thread, and if you experience audio hiccups, try increasing the thread count by 1.Continue adding threads until no hiccups occur. The maximum recommended number of threads is the number of physical cores in your machine. For example, a quad-core machine would likely maximize the number of modules by using 4 threads.

Due to simultaneous multithreading such as Intel Hyper-Threading, you may attempt to use up to twice as many threads as physical cores in your machine, but typically this results in worse performance with higher power usage.

My customer's datacenter has 4U Patch Racks above each cabinet. I want to model this in DCO. Is it supported or what is the workaround? Is there any chance it will be available in the future versions? I attached the patch rack picture just to give you an idea. many data centers are using this solution nowadays.

There will only be one network closet to start with potential for an IDF in the future. This closet will have approximately 600 termination points. My question comes down to design. Is this too much for one rack? Should I split this into two racks? My only thought with why this should happen is strictly ease of cable management.

I would consider this too much for one rack. You always want to leave yourself at least some space for the future. I have seldom been in situations where less space is used in a rack over time, rather quite often the opposite (you end up needing more).

If you go with a chassis based switch solution (now or the future), this also wouldn't work as usually these are not as space efficient (while line cards take up only 1U, their power supplies will take up additional space).

Edit: Adding this to comment on some of the other answers. I left the actual rack layouts out of my answer originally as they are an issue for much discussion as there is no "correct" way to do it. While several good ideas are proposed, a rack design/layout has to address the concerns of your environment and what will provide your organization a reliable and manageable solution.

While there are some things that should be done for any proper installation (racks should be properly grounded, if you use two post racks a ladder rack or other means of securing/stabilizing the top should be installed, etc), many of them come down to personal preference.

For instance, some cabling companies will tell you that you should not put patch panels on the lower 1/3-1/2 of the rack, as it is harder to terminate and prone to more errors. Some will say you shouldn't do any sort of patch panel/switch/patch panel layout as getting access to the back of the patch panels (for additional cabling or repairs) can be restricted.

In earthquake prone areas, some people will tell you that you should mount your equipment in the bottom half of the rack (with heaviest items - UPSes - at the bottom) as this provides a more stable rack. The more weight at the top of the rack, the more the rack has a tendency to sway.

Ultimately, you should put thought into any rack design. Think through the tasks that you will be doing most often, the tasks that are prone to mistakes/errors or can affect other connections, the amount of space you have, your budget and any other considerations the job/site may have.
