The software supports up to a 1000 sources, including virtual as well as hardware sources. In practice, the total number will depend on the limitations of your computer, GPU, and capture hardware. An average workstation configuration with dedicated GPU can support about eight HD (or two 4K) sources Use a video capture card or usb video grabber such as a Blackmagic, Magewell or Inogeni products to capture live from a camera or external video feed. Up to 4K resolution is supported, depending on the limitations of the card and computer hardware.

Receive multiple channels of video and audio from any NDI compatible device or PC on the network. SD, HD and 4K are supported. vMix 4K provides the same functionality for NDI inputs as it does for traditional HDMI and SDI Cameras sources including the ability to use them with transitions, streaming, recording, MultiCorder and even Instant Replay.

Share the Output of vMix, including audio to any NDI compatible device or PC on the network including another computer running vMix. In vMix 4K you also have the ability to send a second output through the use of External 2 feature to send an independent source such as Preview, Output, Input or MultiView. vMix supports SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) a point to point protocol for fixed latency streams over an unreliable internet. vMix supports multiple inputs (Stream Input) and up to 4 outputs in vMix 4K and Pro (1 output in all other editions). Using GPU acceleration where possible for H264 and HEVC streams. 2 stream PC encode limit applies on GeForce cards, CPU fallback available when not available on the GPU.

Audio Mixer allows you to easily keep track of all audio sources and includes the ability to Mute, Follow (Auto Mixing) and Delay any source. An encoder takes audio and video content from various sources you use during a live event such as a camera, a microphone, a desktop screen capture, and so on. It compresses and converts that media into a suitable digital format, then sends it to Teams for live streaming to your audience. Consult our Custom Production playbook to learn more about how you can use Teams production technologies (such as NDI) with external encoders.

For a live event scheduled in Teams or Viva Engage, the Teams Encoder option must be selected. For a town hall, the RTMP-In meeting option must be turned on. This option provisions an RTMP endpoint, which is provided with an RTMP(S) URL and corresponding stream key. The URL and stream key are used by the encoder to connect to the RTMP endpoint for the scheduled live event.

Yes. ShowCockpit is a modular software - all you need to do is add your MIDI device to your project and map its controls (buttons, faders, etc.) to the desired functions in the vMix element (full list of functions available below).

vMix is a very flexible piece of software allowing you to mix and edit various video sources - it also has advanced facilities such as green screen and tickers. It can stream directly on to the web but also produces a directshow external output which we can use to transmit DATV.

First, install vMix on your PC and make sure that it works with your selected video source. vMix can be downloaded from here: The free version handles SD video and is adequate for our needs; it works in this mode after the 60-day trial period.

Use the release build, 32-bit, static. Unzip the downloaded file and move the files to a folder called ffmpeg on your C:\ drive so that it has the folders bin, docs, licenses and presets folders inside it.

You will need to make some amendments to the file; do this by right-clicking and selecting edit. Near the top of the file replace the callsign G8GKQ with your callsign; then replace the IP address (192.168.2.111) with the IP address of your Portsdown TX RPi. This IP address is displayed when you change the Portsdown video source to IPTSIN (don't forget to press the space bar to change the selection!).

When you press a key, the window should change to one giving information about the stream being sent towards the Portsdown TX. The stream is simply squirted at the IP address that you entered earlier - it can be left running and the TX does not need to be on.

The video bit rates in the Portsdown batch file are hard-coded based on what was found to work - a trial and error process to minimise both under-runs and over-runs of the transport stream in the Portsdown software. Both cause picture disturbances. If you want to see the effect of different settings, you can monitor the under-run or over-run by watching the text output from rpidatv. To do this, open 3 Linux terminal sessions; the first one should have the Portsdown Console Menu. Use the console for selecting the desired SR and FEC, but not selecting transmit. Go to the Linux command prompt on the second console to select transmit and watch the buffer messages. Do this by typing:
