My name is Gabriella Sanchez and I run an independent gallery in DTLA called Wayside LA. On August 12th from 7pm - 10pm Wayside will be hosting an opening for our newest exhibit "Girls Who Dance in Dissonance". This show will feature work from over 10 female artists of color both based in LA and abroad.
I'm reaching out because I personally wanted to invite your LA team! I also wanted to extend the invite for you to setup a table in our "gift shop" area for the night. I specifically extending this offer out to a few LA based organizations, artists etc that fit within the theme of the art show. Of course no pressure. We'd still love for you to come out if you don't want to set up a table! :)I've included additional information below as well as a promo piece. All other details can be found on our website wayside.la
Please let me know asap if you'd like to be part of the gift shop :)
xx

The theme of the exhibit is fluid identity. It’s no secret that people of color and woman in general are underrepresented in media and society's consciousness at large. One of the many results of this underrepresentation is that when a person of color is given a voice they are often seen as speaking for their entire community rather than as their individual self. In this exhibit we’ll be exploring that idea and hope to deconstruct that view through showing a wide variation of work that spans differing viewpoints and materials to display the complex, individual and even contradictory natures between a collection of women of color. The artwork itself will be varied in nature as well from paintings, video, installation and live performance pieces.
WHO IS INVOLVED
Our artists span the gamut for some have exhibited at internationally renowned galleries and fairs while others are local LA favorites and others are internet cult queens. All the artists are of the millennial age range. Artists include: Tabita Rezaire, Lilian Martinez, Rewina Beshue, Paula J Wilson, Gabby Bess, Tyra Mitchell, Gabriella Sanchez, Sirin Thada, Ambar Navarro, Sara Foryame, Keiry Benitez, Haleigh Nickerson
In addition to the exhibiting artists we’ll also have a “gift shop” during the opening where local crafters and artists who fit within the show’s theme will be selling their goods. We’ll also have live dj sets by Honey Power Collective! HPC is an all female dj group that's lead by multi-talented woman of color, Mukta Mohan.
