Velana: Forgive me, Ensign. It's just been a rough day.
Kovis: No forgiveness needed. We all have them and this is a serious situation. Hopefully this shall be over sooner rather than later and things can go back to normal and we can look forward to that talk.
:A nurse ran up to them with a PADD in her hand.:
Nurse: Doctor, we have an unresponsive patient!
:Velana grabbed the PADD.:
Velana: :to Kovis: Time to put your first aid training to use, Ensign.
Kovis: I will do what I can to assist, Commander, but my skills are very basic. I wish I had half the smarts to qualify as a surgeon! But lets go. I don’t want to keep someone waiting.
:Nodding, Velana followed the nurse to the patient, with Kovis right behind. Unfortunately, her combadge chirped just then.:
Sterek: ^ Ensign Sterek to Commander Velana. ^
Velana: ^ Go ahead. ^
Sterek: ^ Commander, the Romulan hostiles have armed a number of explosive devices throughout the station and we are forced to stand down. Request the assistance of a negotiation team to begin discussions of our withdrawal from the station. ^
Velana: ^ What?! Ensign, absolutely not! We are not withdrawing from anything... ^ :Suddenly, there was static on the line. ^ Ensign!! ^
:What in the name of Surak was happening?! She'd only been in command for a few days, but already the Outpost was in danger of being surrendered and wiped out by disease.:
Kovis: Do you think ... if the Romulans are taking the opportunity to pick a fight now ... that the illness might have something to do with them?
Velana: :frowning: I don't know. They're not above biological warfare.
Kovis: The timing just seems a little too convenient to me, that is all.
Velana: We should probably not speculate. Better to have facts.
Kovis: Well, I am quite sure that they will have some information. But ... for now, what is the status of the patient?
:Out of the corner of her eye, Velana saw Kors emerging from the morgue...without Esme Drake. She frowned, but quickly returned her attention to the patient. The young girl really only need a dose of Dexalin to kick start her breathing.:
:Almost as soon as they were done, Velana's combadge chirped again.:
Sterek: ^ Commander Velana, please amend my previous request. We require several emergency medical teams on the promenade and a negotiation team will not be necessary. Please also inform sickbay that they may cease the filtration of paralytic gas into the area. ^
o Paralytic gas?!?!? o
Velana: ^ Ensign, I have no idea what's going on down there, but we're going to be talking about it when this is all through. I'll send as many medics as I can spare, but that won't be many. Velana out. ^
:Her body screamed for inaprovaline, but she didn't dare give herself the soothing drug in the presence of a counselor. The last thing she needed was questions about her minor little habit.:
Velana: All right. :She took a deep breath and released it.: We're not going to cure everyone by treating them one at a time. We have to find the source of this virus and when we do, then we can develop a cure.
Kovis: ?
Velana: Where it all started. The terraforming camp. :She gestured to Kors.: Doctor, will you join us?
Kors: ?
Velana: I know you were meant to go to the surface with Lieutenant Drake, but she should really stay here and continue her work with the tissue samples. So, we'll go instead. You, me, Ensign Kovis and... :She looked around, but the only doctor she spotted right away was Sissons. The pink haired woman was standing over Diego, checking his pulse.: Ensign Sissons.
:Together, they walked over to the bio bed.:
Velana: How is he, Ensign?
Sissons: ?
Velana: :smiling at Diego: I trust you're a being a good patient?
Herrera: :weakly: Of course, querida.
Velana: Well, I hate to do this, but I need Sissons with me. We're going down to the surface. We're going to find the source of this thing and a way to cure it.
Herrera: I have no doubt.
Velana: :to the team: We just need tricorders and phasers, in case we run into anything...or anyone unexpected.
Kors/Kovis/Sissons: ?
Velana: All right. Computer...four to beam directly to the terraforming camp.
Kors/Kovis/Sissons: ?
