:Velana’s suggestion of
searching the sleeping quarters together came as a relief to Karina. She was
not afraid of what might be found, she had been in seemingly far more
threatening situations than this one, however this landscape was unstable and
unpredictable: they were stronger as a unit until they had more information.
Sissons: I agree, commander. As medical
officer, the wellbeing of the landing party must remain my priority during our
sub-mission.
Ko-Antin: ?
Kovis: ?
: All 4 crew members headed together towards the camp and began collecting data in earnest. They could not waste any time in getting back to the ship with an answer:
Karina looked across a few times at the commander, who seemed distracted. Ko-Antin crossed over what was left of the quarters, towards Velana, with a puzzled look on his face:
Ko-Antin: ?
Velana: Lieutenant?
Ko-Antin: ?
Velana: As I understand it, the
terraformers get their water from the Outpost. Why?
Ko-Antin: ?
Velana: That doesn't make any sense.
Water from the Outpost would be replicated; it would show microscopic traces of
the photons from which it originated, but nothing else. So, are you
saying the water in the decon chamber isn't from the Outpost?
Ko-Antin: ?
Kors: ?
Velana: Then where would it have come
from? Surely not from Eden.
Ko-Antin: ?
:Karina stopped scanning entirely and considered this new idea. Could the camp have been accidently (or knowingly even) be drinking water sourced from Eden itself? This planet was known for playing tricks on the mind; could they have convinced themselves it was safe to drink and eat from the produce?
Velana turned to her with a frown:
Velana: Ensign Sissons, can you do a search
for the geological surveys of this area. We're looking for any
underground water supply.
Sissons: Right away.
Velana: Could groundwater have seeped up
to the surface or would it have to have been tapped into?
Sissons: I believe both options are
possible, but the later would be most likely. Someone from within the crew
could have sabotaged the supply, or possibly Eden could be playing mind tricks.
I had not considered either option until I beamed down. I’m picking up a sense
of confusion, or deception, which I had not expected.
: both women exchanged a
look of concern:
Velana: Compare the scans of this water
with the ones Lieutenant Drake took of Patient Zero's blood. Search for
any common DNA traces. If these terraformers brought up something that's been
buried in this planet for years, no wonder we don't have a cure.
Everything on Eden was designed to kill.
Ko-Antin: ?
Velana: ?
Sissons: They may not have been aware of
what they were doing.
Kovis: ?
Kors: ?
Sissons: I will check the history of all crew members at the camp, including DNA and recent medicals.
Velana:
