I have exactly the same experience. I know my Internet speed is not very fast, at around 15-25 Mbps, but prior to sim update 5 I had not received any bandwidth warning messages. I have photogrammetry switched off. Now I experience them for just about every flight. Few if I fly in the afternoon, I live in Portugal, and many warnings if I fly in the evening. Strangely, not all the warnings result in the Internet being switched off, sometimes it is and sometimes not. What is really annoying is the bandwidth message, which takes over the whole screen, ruins the immersion of flight, and on around 40% of flights causes all the ground objects, aircraft vehicles etc to fly up into the air and then crash down onto the ground, and then results in no ground surface scenery being displayed for several minutes. Basically it wrecks the Sim. It seems the achilies heel of this simulator is its total reliance on the Internet servers.
The most obvious cause is bad internet HOWEVER there are examples server side where locations have been corrupted that will hopefully fix themselves with the next big update. I found one just east of the Wuppertal western schwebebahn terminal.
But we can judge budget truck simulators against Eurotruck Simulator. Or hell, even Farming Simulator is better than this.
These are mostly cash grabs based on the success of MS FlightSim and TrainSim (which each command a whole shelf of add-ons in retail stores!) and later the Farming Simulator games (which tend to have no add-ons on shelves but instead occupy a top 10 spot). I do wonder how many people are foolish enough to buy a second shovelware simulator though, they seem to be a case of simply flinging shit at a wall with a gatling gun. So many crappy simulators pop up and disappear again without anybody but the garbage bin of the retailers realizing it. I guess the only reason they keep making these is because they're dirt cheap to make.
The latest expansion for OMSI 2 offers the rare opportunity to ride the Wuppertaler Schwebebahn, a suspended monorail hanging over the river and streets of the German city Wuppertal. This bus-driving simulator is a bit too serious for my tastes, as I'm more of a happy-go-bumpy Bus Simulator 18 goof, but I would very much like to visit Wuppertal. I'm sure I could become a serious OMSI driver for this. Stop taking shortcuts over the pavement. Stick to a schedule. Not jump the train off the rail into the river. I could do that. The new expansion does also let folks drive buses on the streets of Wuppertal too, but why would you when the city has a flying train?
