I think shortly after I first got this tablet there was an update that somehow temporarily got rid of the Panasonic settings utility. It really screwed me up that one day because it was raining, I did more updates that night and it came back. It may have actually been driver updates so check that too.

No luck with this barcode reader model. The firmware does not include the touch screen modes. I ended up purchasing another used fzm1 (non barcode reader) on ebay running on Windows 8. This one has the glove and water screen modes, and its bluetooth maintains a strong connection to 250m, line of sight.

So, I need to scan a bunch of double sided docs on my mf4445dw. Is there a way/setting for this on the canon scan utility? Can't seem to find one. If I manually scan via the glass it will ask if I want to add pages. But via the feeder, it doesn't ask.

I am using Windows 10, and downloaded the latest MF Scan Utility from Canon's website. Your post got me thinking about utility versions, and I found the install CD (which I often don't use because it's out of date by the time I get it). I uninstalled the latest MF Scan Utility and installed the three year old one on the CD. The double-sided option is now there. Go figure.

When scanning using the MF scan utility, you can set the scanner to perform two sided scans. In the MF scan Utility, you can click on settings in the lower right hand corner. In settings, you can click on the option for document scan. To the right you will see the option to select the source, you can click on that and select the duplex option for the auto document feeder. When scanning using the operation panel, you can select settings in the scan window and then you can switch the two sided original setting to on. When loading items into the auto document feeder, the scanner will not ask to load the next page, it will scan until it no longer detects any paper in the tray. If the two sided original setting is set to on, it will go through the loaded stack of documents and scan both sides.

I compared your settings screen capture with mine- and yours does not display the 2-sided option (see my side-by-side screen capture). Is your MF Scan utility up to date- and are you using Windows 10? BTW, I am having other scanning issues - lack of connectivity with 3rd party scanners (VueScan) and usually have to restart Canon's own MF scan utility twice for it to find the scanner. I think the firmware in the device is buggy and at fault, so Canon needs to fix it..

I am facing the issue with two sided scanning using the control panel on the printer. If we log into the remote UI we can turn on two sided scans to USB. But there is no way to turn on two sided scans to file. Please help.

I did not realize that 455dw scanned both sides at the same time. I assumed it was not getting the backside, until I looked at the output. I expected the unit to scan one side, pull the other side in again, and then recorded the scan. I am using Wireless. I was shocked when it also copied that way. I scan from the computer and had to check the box for two sided scanning. Old Guy

Panasonic's Toughbook series of laptop computers are mainly designed for the more rugged dangerous workplaces like military, law enforcement, or construction scenarios. It's not meant for the indoor desk jobs and design jobs that I'm used to. I did get to use the Panasonic Toughbook FZ-55 a while back though, and that was pretty fun in its extreme modularity and sturdy build. Consumer laptops aren't built with this kind of lasting strength and sustainability.

We've also got two battery compartments for extra long battery life. You can also swap out one dead battery while the other one keeps running the computer. That's a pretty huge advantage! Sure, it was great having removable batteries that could swap out within seconds, but that required shutting the computer off. Swapping batteries while the computer is running, is a huge step up.

On the right side there's the secondary battery bay, a hard drive bay, and above you'll see some of the ports that are accessible here. You've got a 3.5mm headphone/microphone jack, a MicroSD card slot, full sized USB 3 type A port, and a USB-C lightning port. Another flap covers the ethernet port, and at the end you've got the barrel shaped power port.

There are even more ports on the back, but on the right side, this is really another expansion bay that can be swapped out if need be. In our model we have an old serial port, a full-sized USB-A port, and an HDMI port. The left side flap covers a few more ports that are not swappable such as another USB-A port, HDMI port, and a SIM card slot.

However, the stylus nicely works on the trackpad. It functions just like a finger, meaning you have to scoot the mouse pointer around on the screen, but having a tool for this is actually pretty nice. It's especially nice if you're wearing gloves.

Another good reason for using the stylus on the trackpad is the issue that the track pad is not nearly as responsive with a finger as other consumer grade laptop trackpads. That's partly because this one actually works with gloves on so that people can use it in extreme environments.

The keyboard is pretty great. It doesn't have ergonomic concave/convex shapes to the keys like the older laptops that I love. They keys are just flat tops, but they have plenty of movement and a good feel to the movement. There are 4 levels of backlight brightness with color selectors, too. You've also got plenty of LED status indicators and a few extra programmable keys to assign specific programs or functions to for one-touch access. The F11 key is in red as that's often used with law enforcement software to signal to dispatch that an officer needs assistance.

Of course, there's a camera for video conferencing and facial recognition. This has infrared Windows Hello biometric log-in support as well. It's only 5Mp resolution though, but that's plenty for video calls. Also note there's a big physical shutter that you can slide over the camera to keep it from turning on when you don't want it.

While some parts of Windows 11 are customizable, many of the options and capabilities you're used to from Windows 10 and below are gone. Luckily there are numerous 3rd party tools to fix this such as: ExplorerPatcher, StartAllBack, and Stardock Start11.

That being said, the Panasonic Toughbook 40 is pretty bare-bones when it comes to additional software bundled with the default operating system, though there is a suite of useful apps for controlling some of the specialized hardware.

Panasonic includes a slew of small utility apps for controlling the settings for different aspects of the hardware. There's a Day Night Mode utility, Recover disc creator, general settings utility, backlit keyboard customizer, camera utility, barcode emulator, and asset tag entry utility.

Battery life wise, the Panasonic Toughbook 40 is pretty hardcore. Since there are two hot-swapable batteries, you've got at least double the battery life of most other laptops. So we're looking at close to 30 hours of continuous use before having to swap a battery.

While it's generally not an important aspect of my particular day job in graphic design, I love that these kinds of rugged laptop computers exist. The heavy duty industrial look of these Panasonic Toughbooks is just so badass. The weight and indestructibility is super impressive too. This clearly doesn't belong in a classroom, office building, couch, or caf though. It belongs on the construction site, or in a police vehicle, or military helicopter, or army desert mission, or on an Antarctic research expedition... and that's pretty awesome.

Below, we'll outline the best temperature to set your thermostat to save energy during summer and winter. We'll explain why it works to manage your home's climate more efficiently and share a few bonus thermostat tricks and heating habits to reduce your overall usage.

According to the US Department of Energy, the best technique for staying cool yet minimizing utility costs in summer is to keep your home warmer than usual when no one is home and then set the temperature as high as comfortably possible when home. Energy Star, a program of the US Environmental Protection Agency and the US Department of Energy, suggested that homes be kept at 78 degrees Fahrenheit when home during the day.

It also suggests that the thermostat be set to 82 degrees Fahrenheit when sleeping and 85 degrees Fahrenheit when out of the house for maximum savings; recommendations that were met with scorn and disbelief on social media.

If setting your thermostat to somewhere in the 80s sounds too warm, then a good rule of thumb to follow is to turn your thermostat up 7 to 10 degrees from your normal setting for eight hours a day, so you can save up to 10% a year.

According to the US Department of Energy, it's best to keep your thermostat at 68 degrees Fahrenheit for most of the day during the winter season. For maximum efficiency, you should also designate eight hours per day during which you turn the temperature down by between 7 and 10 degrees. By following this routine, you may again be able to reduce your yearly energy costs by up to 10%.

Depending on your schedule and comfort preferences, you can decide whether you'd prefer to keep your home cooler during the day or at night. Some people prefer turning the heat down at night when they can cozy up under blankets and won't notice the colder conditions. Plus, sleeping in chillier temperatures may be linked with getting more restful sleep.

A common misconception is that setting your air conditioner to a lower-than-normal temperature will cool your home faster. An air conditioner will only really cool your home to 15 to 20 degrees cooler than the outdoors; any other setting will not cool your home more and will result in unnecessarily high expenses.
