We're here tonight because a lot of people in the South and across America know that the Second Amendment is to be respected as much as the First Amendment.
- Gov. Mike Huckabee

Subject: [ok-sus] State Green Building Legislation - Do You Want to See it Happen?
Greetings OSN, OKAPA, and Oklahoma USGBC,
We are at one momentous legislative session when it comes to bills for Green Building - Raise your hand if you knew there were SEVEN Green Building Bills being considered for hearing. Yeah surprising, isn't it? I didn't know how many til this morning.
This groundswell of green building legislative activity is due in no small part to the responsible advocacy from all of you and other groups, as well as many individual practitioners and citizens. OSN Chapter reps, please send to your listserves - thanks. Forward this on to AIA chapters, Home Builders, and others who promote the premise of green building.
Contact your Senators & Representatives
It is time to reach your elected officials, if you wish, write letters of support / suggestions for improvement.
How to find out who your senators and reps are:
http://www.oksenate.gov/Senators/maps.htm
http://www.okhouse.gov/Research/HouseDistricts.aspx
Talk to folks
Outreach with elected officials is not for everyone, so let's get the conversation going with neighbors, friends, business associates, see what folks are thinking about this. No doubt the folks in the capitol are unaware of how much support there really is for green initiatives.
Seven?
And heck yes, it is confusing that there are 7 bills, clearly with overlap among them. This all gets worked out in the sessions - many of these bills do not make it out of committee (think survival of the fittest) by the deadline, but some do. Those that make it may be amended to incorporate terms from the ones that didn't. This is my first year following this in OK, so I am learning as we go along. I've included a list of important legislative dates at the end of this email
I will try to answer as many questions as I can about these bills, but I encourage you to contact the bill sponsor. They would be glad to know you are reading their work. Here are the sponsors & numbers numbers of the seven bills & the website where to look up more than you'd ever know was out there - Carry on!
Read the Bills:
Trebilcock - HB 2924
McMullen - HB3032
Lindley - HB3319 (Joint effort OSN & Sierra Club on this one!)
Miller - HB3332
Rice - SB1504
Bingman - SB1590
Rice - SB1771
If you want to read a bill in its entirety go to the capitol website:
Click on Text of Measures in the Legislative menu- (or surf around and check on status, have fun! )
Choose Senate or House - for the above attachments, SB = Senate and HB = House
Highlight "Introduced" in the left menu
Click on search
It will bring up the bills in numerical order
Legislative agenda for current session:
12/07/07 Reserving bill numbers (8 allowed per legislator)
1/17/08 Bill introduction (must have some language in all bills by this date)
2/04/08 Session begins
2/21/08 Senate bills in Senate Committees
3/13/08 Third reading in House of Origin
4/03/08 House bills in Senate Committee
