Bonjour Cousins,
Attached is the July 2021 edition of our "Generations" - the newsletter of Les Guédry et Petitpas d'Asteur. Thanks to Rev. Jean-François Petitpas for contributing a ground-breaking article on the origins of the Acadian Petitpas family and Mr. Dennis Boudreau of Rhode Island for suggesting that the article be published in "Generations". Unfortunately, I just learned that Mr. Boudreau passed away on 8 July 2021 from cancer. Our condolences to his family and many friends. Mr. Boudreau was an outstanding genealogist and among his publications was his seminal 4-volume set "Dictionnaire généalogique des familles des Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Québec, 1760-1948" comprising almost 4000 pages.
Also, much gratitude to Allison Guidry for editing this issue of "Generations" and all past issues during the last 19+ years. We appreciate your dedication, hard work and contributions to Les Guédry et Petitpas d'Asteur. And special thanks to Charlene Guidry Lacombe, our Membership Chair; Daniel 'Chuck' Guidry, our Treasurer and our other officers and committee chairpersons for their many contributions to your family association over many years.
We hope you enjoy perusing this issue of "Generations" and gain some insight into your Acadian origins.
For several decades I have been seeking gravestones of original Acadian deportees throughout North American and have located six thus far. These are Acadians who were deported during 1755-1764, died at some point, were buried and who have a headstone today. Bazile Lanneau of Charleston, SC, who is highlighted in an article in this issue, is one of those deportees. If you know of any gravestones of original Acadian deportees, please email me at
guidry...@gmail.com with the name of the deportee, the location (cemetery) of the gravestone and the town and state/province.
We have several Reunions in the next three years that we discuss in this issue of "Generations". Begin making your plans to attend one or more of them.
Good reading and stay safe,
Marty
