Call for Proposals
As part of Azim Premji University’s efforts to strengthen and elevate action on climate change, we are launching a Research Funding Programme in this area. This is designed to promote increased understanding, and to explore possible action and responses on the climate crisis in India.
We invite high quality proposals that examine significant questions of public concern in the following three areas:
- Climate change education and outreach
- Climate change policy and action
- Climate change adaptation in various sectors of development practice
The funding programme is designed to strengthen and supplement our existing efforts in these areas. While we are open to any broad consideration within the area, the research should be empirically grounded, and be able to directly inform and engage with education and outreach, policy or practice. We are especially seeking proposals in emerging areas of major relevance such as climate change communication, climate change and health, and climate change in cities, but are open to proposals engaging with climate change in all its diverse aspects. Successful projects must have a strong component of action in some form: projects that are solely research-focused will not be considered in this call. Collaborative research applications are encouraged.
The duration of projects is for 1 year, and size of the research fund is a maximum of Rs.20 lakhs per proposal.
Interested applicants should submit the following via the online portal which will be open on 20th August, 2019:
- CV for all investigators
- Short concept note of not more than 3 pages - describing the scientific and field understanding that motivates the proposal, as well as the proposed actions and responses
- Budget breakdown
- Anticipated timeline
Please note that the portal will remain available until, 5.00 PM (IST) on 31stSeptember, 2019, the last date for concept note submissions. This deadline is strict.
The concept note and proposal should both indicate why the proposed project is needed, highlight its significance, clearly identify the objectives, and outline the approach to be employed. In particular, it should indicate why the issue selected is of general significance and how it addresses the particular concerns laid out in the terms of reference. Applicants should have demonstrated competency and qualifications to undertake the work in the proposed area. Applicants should read the terms of reference for each area before applying and ensure that the proposal aligns with the specifications.
Please note that a proposal that is outside the scope of the specific areas outlined will not be considered further. We are open to new ideas and designs that work with diverse collaborators, engage with creative arts, or help us move forward in other innovative ways – at the same time we are also seeking proposals by experienced applicants working on well-established approaches. Please ensure that your concept note and proposal address at least one of the three themes, and indicate how your proposal specifically seeks to engage with this theme.
Research Funds will be awarded primarily to individuals or teams affiliated with academic and teaching institutions, think tanks, NGOs and other centers of vital research and action both in India and elsewhere. We encourage a diversity of interested applicants in the fields of education, creative arts, development practice, public policy, media, academia, and other areas of relevance to submit proposals.
