Comfort k. Acheampong (orange dress) - Voices of African Mothers, Ghana (out from Colonial rule of UK... first president said if you want to rule the people, you must live with them, see how they live, and love them, and most importantly learn from them)... many civil society problems now are coming in and forgetting to talk with the people to see what the people need... ex computer overload, computer dumping, cyber crime
Need to shift to recognize that it is the human being that is central to al that we are doing, and must be an intergral part of the solution
Edna Nyame Philips - Voices of African Mothers how can women assist their children... early motherhood starting from 14 yrs, by 16, 3 children, w/ o fathers, w/ o proper education , w/ o job... causing huge problems for society, mainly an agricultural economic system, dry for 5 mos, how can we develop education systems that empower solutions to these challenges
Nana Fosu Randall, one of the organizers for the Women's major group, worked for UN for 20 yrs, from Ghana. She was not happy with the report back in the NG meeting where the rep was saying that Africa was focusing only on economics whereas Asia was focused on the environment... she thinks that the workd must look at Africa with respect for where they are and where they need to go... Africa must be respected for where they are and what they are doing, and their wisdom and guidance is equal to what other counties have to offer

- to shift away from the creation of our money by the rich and powerful to it being created by the value of the commons/ in a decentralized, democratic and transparent system
- to shift away from a monetary system that is destroying our natural systems and the livelihoods of people who depend on them, to a monetary system that supports our natural systems and the people that depend on them
- shifting from an ed syst which produces elites to a system that enables more community-minded/ environmentally minded/ whole-system minded individuals
- shifting from less aware communications (ex. stereotypes) that have separate agendas to communication with respect between communities of practice to realize their interdependence through deep listening
