DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Senior leader of Hamas Movement and head of its
political bureau Khaled Mishaal said on Monday that he contacted a
number of Arab officials and leaders with the aim to acquaint them
with the details of the Sana'a declaration, and to rally their support
for it.

On Sunday, Hamas and Fatah movements signed the Yemeni initiative in
the Yemeni capital Sana'a under the patronage of the Yemeni president
Ali Abdullah Saleh, which calls for national dialogue between the two
biggest factions in the Palestinian arena in order to end the current
political rift.

According to a statement issued by Hamas's information department and
a copy of which was obtained by the PIC, Mishaal contacted the Yemeni
leadership, and thanked them for the tremendous efforts they had
exerted in bringing the two factions together.

The Movement also added that Mishaal conversed with a number of Arab
leaders through telephone, and with Amre Mousa, the secretary-general
of the Arab league, and briefed them on the details of the agreement,
urging them to back the deal during the upcoming Arab summit in the
Syrian capital Damascus.

The Sana'a declaration, which was signed by Fatah's delegation to
Sana'a headed by MP Azzam Al-Ahamd, and Dr. Mousa Abu Marzouk, the
deputy-head of Hamas's political bureau, stressed the geographical
unity of the Palestinian lands as both parties agreed that the
declaration serves as a framework to resume Palestinian national
dialogue, and to discuss all points of disputes between them.

However, Fatah members and officials of the PA leadership in Ramallah
city challenged the deal and described the signing as a "mistake", but
Al-Ahmad lashed out at those officials, including Nemr Hammad, the
political advisor of PA chief Mahmoud Abbas, and accused them of
attempting to sabotage the deal and of derailing Palestinian national
reconciliation.
