In the March Bridge Bulletin in the Ruling the Game column on page 38,
they state that
"defenses to natural notrump openings and overcalls where direct bids of
2D or higher must show at least one known suit".
So it seems our use of the 2D bid to show ANY 3 suited hand is
illegal. We could modify it to say that it always shows diamonds.
Another possibility might be to say that it always shows spades.

So are we going to change? If so, I'm suggesting 2D shows diamonds and
2 other suits.

I believe Peter is still waiting on an email response from the guy who
made the call that it's illegal.

I'm back and forth as to how we should change it (if it's necessary).
Here's the 2 choices I like best
1) Because we push so hard on the majors, it could be spades, hearts,
and a minor
2) As you and Peter suggested, diamonds and any other 2 suits

I like 1), because it get's right to finding a 4-4 (or better) major fit
at the two level.
I like 2), because it gives the option for partner to pass right away.
That's helpful, because the opponents might have to decide then if
they're going to bid. When they know another bid is coming (as in
option 1), they can pass, hear the bid and then decide what direction to go.

If I had to pick, I'd go with 1)
