India House (Multiculture Centre) revitalised NOW

Dear O-Indians, Findians, Chaff Participants, Thai Association members,

With the exit of many Indians from India House at Ahmatie 16, I thought that it would change to be the new Multiculture Centre.

Today, however, I signed an Agreement with a major Indian software company. They have taken 4 of the five apartments in India House (the fifth having been let to a Finn just two weeks ago). This Indian company has also taken the beautiful 3-bedroomed Tuira apartment.

All my friends apartments are now occupied till end October.

There are, therefore, some major operational changes.

I have organised the beautiful much larger Flat No. 4 in Ahmatie 16 as the Multiculture Centre.
(Your help in making this ready will be much appreciated - I am not much of an Interior Designer and Annikki is tied up with her mother to be of help this week.)

1. The Self Service Refreshment Bar, the sauna, and the room for rentals will be now in Flat No. 4.
2. CHAFF Meetings can be held here in Flat No. 4 (not Flat No. 3) on Sunday afternoons - 16:00 - 18:00 hours.
3. Flat No. 4 will have either one / two double rooms for short term rentals for visitors on a daily rental basis (€ 20 per person per day).
4. The rental for special or regular occasions (such as Satsang) in Flat No. 4 will be at € 10 per hour, so book your requirements.
5. The chess and card tables can be easily be accommodated in Flat No. 4. I am planning this now.
6. The TV room with a large screen in Flat No. 4 is also being planned with regular film showings (for registered members only). If there is sufficient response I will organise a satellite Antenna in these premises to see Indian Channels, etc.
7. The Computer Room will also soon be operational in Flat No. 4. (Anyone got good computers to lend / donate to get this started?)

This week's Flea Market which is advertised for Friday, Saturday and Sunday (09:30 - 11:30 am) will, therefore, now move from Flat No. 3 to Flat No. 4.

If you have stuff to sell, please bring it there (and mark the price you want as I have no time to individually look after the sales). I have advertised the Flea Market in both Oulu Lehti and Kaleva (Friday, Saturday and Sunday issues). Half my stock was cleared this week.

The Indian spices (Tandoori Masala, Garam Masala, Pulav Mix, Cumin seed, coriander powder, etc.) , the African curios, etc. will also be on sale.

I am negotiating to get sales of rice, and other non-perishable stuff to be organised there at much cheaper prices than in the other shops. Keep your fingers crossed as I do not want the chaos of the Basmati rice to occur again.

We will welcome 8 new Indian software professionals to Oulu this Tuesday. I will introduce them to the O-India and CHAFF activities on their arrival.

Hope to see you this weekend - at the Flea Market, at the CHAFF meeting, or just to drop in and have a tea with others in the Self Service Refreshment Centre.

The Multiculture Centre is open daily from 9 am to 11 am (except Wednesdays)

I need a really dynamic individual to take charge of this entire operation - soon.
