Does anybody know where I can find a Windows Vista recovery disk? I have a client who is having boot problems and their computer only has a CD writer on it so I can't use a Vista install disk on it and I do not have any spare DVD drives around.

for vista? Most? Sony is an exception, a majority of manufacturers have a point (generally 3-5 years) they stop making restore media. Ever look at HP's lineup? They have 8 computers per retailer, per month, you expect them to make a disk for a crappy old computer?

Download our recovery and repair disk for Microsoft Windows Vista (also available for Windows 7, 8, XP or Server editions) that can be used to access system recovery tools, giving you options of using an antivirus, System Restore, document and picture backup and recovery, automated system repair, and a command-line prompt for manual advanced recovery.

This recovery and repair disk is compatible with desktops, workstations, laptops, notebooks, netbooks, ultrabooks and servers from major PC manufacturers, like Dell, HP, Asus, Acer or Lenovo plus more.

From your running system, open the Start Menu, and search for "Backup and Restore". In the Control Panel applet that appears, one option on the left or bottom of the screen is to create a Recovery Disk. This disk that it makes will boot the recovery tools for Vista or Windows 7 that you can use on any other Vista or Windows 7 system (depends on which version you create though). You can then boot the CD and access the same Recovery tools as the standard Windows disk would allow you to use.

Problems with the master boot record (MBR) of a system may prevent the system from booting. The MBR may be affected by malicious code, become corrupted by disk errors, or be overwritten by other boot loaders when experimenting with multiple operating systems on a host. This recipe describes one method of repairing the MBR for an XP host using the recovery console.

The CD ROM on my laptop is fried and therefore I tried installing Ubuntu again using a USB install. However, the version Ubuntu 9.10 justs hangs in the load screen and does nothing. I do not have windows Vista Recovery CD (as it was a recovery partition in my laptop).

You should have an OS reinstallation disk (i.e., the Windows disk), the Dell Drivers & Utilties (aka Resource) CD, at least one Dell Applications CD, and a disk for any third party software you ordered with the system (such as MS Office or a full version of Roxio). The Windows disk is for a clean install of Windows with nothing extra, and is not a recovery CD as it does not load the Dell factory image.

Hi, I own a small business where I fix dell PC's all day every day. I never use the recovery partition for a number of reasons. The main reason is I dont want to recovery the bloatware. Instead I recommend doing whatever it takes to get an OEM Windows Recovery Disk. I know that Dell offers them to people who are still under warranty. If you arent under warranty and you lost or damaged your disk, you can actually buy a backup replacement copy of your windows recovery disk at: www.oemsoftwaresource.com . Take your recovery disk, and put it into you disk drive. Press F12 during bootup and follow the prompts to reinstall windows. Good luck on getting your PC up and going again! Anthony

Im not sure because I havent bought Dell from Best Buy, I do know that it is in Best Buy's Interest to sell you a windows vista recovery disk, so I wouldnt be surprised if they remove it. But im not sure. So if you buy from them, check the box first to see if the OS disk is in there. And could you let me know what you find out? Thank you, Anthony

To solve the problem on your Windows Vista does not boot up normally error, you have to use a reliable Vista boot disk. This bootable tool will allow you to boot up your computer in any circumstances. It can function as a restoration CD/DVD or USB disk. If you do not have a CD/DVD writer, you have to create your VISTA recovery bootable USB Disk.

One could think of that Microsoft probably does not want anyone to create a bootable disc in Vista. You can however do a Google search for recdisc.exe to download this tool to make a Vista system recovery disk. But the processes are quite hard.

But you do not need to worry. Because using our software, you can now conveniently and easily create your Windows Vista bootable system recovery USB disc. The USB disc created by our software does not only include Windows build in recovery tools but also a dozen of free useful tools that were developed and enhanced by us. Such as these are the data recovery, password recovery, Windows recovery, disk clone, and disk image.

Warning the instructions below assume that the program bootsect.exe is present on the booted Vista recovery disk. It was included on earlier distributions of Vista, but was subsequently omitted. If your DVD contains a copy in the boot folder, the instructions can be followed as listed. If not (and our downloadable CD images do not) you will need to pick up a copy elsewhere before proceeding.
You can find a copy in the Bin folder of the EasyBCD download, or in the HnS download if you already have either of those NST products. You can also find other web sources by use of a search engine.
You will need to adjust the x:\boot path in the instructions to the appropriate path to locate bootsect.exe wherever you have stored a copy.

I have the windows installation discs/recovery but have not retreived all the data yet. Will inserting the disc automatically delete all the data on the drive or will it simply attempt to repair the issue and keep the data on the drive? I am hoping to just get it operational to recover the data with least cost/time expense possible.

Thanks, After restarting with the recovery disk in, I was able to boot to disk and I am at a gray screen that says select "Toshiba Recovery Wizard" or "System Recovery Options" Again, I do not want to proceed from here if it will delete all of my data. Will continuing from this point erase data?

Some have asked...

I am using windows vista. This is an actual 2 disc recovery and applications/driver disc set from Toshiba that came with the cpu.

hello, i must get your book wow! so, ifi lose the hard drive, win7, is it correct that i use a system recovery disk to pu the drive back to factory, and THEN a complete system repair (mine is on a hard drive) and that that will replace all programs, settings and files? thank you, j m

It sounds to me like you told the installation of Windows to use the entire hard drive and it simply deleted all partitions and created new one(s). Recovering a partition is usually a difficult task but it gets more difficult and even impossible if you have overwritten sectors with new data. See here. If you have Windows there are other tools that you can use (->Google). Hiren's Boot CD also has a collection of recovery tools. Don't forget: try to avoid writing data to the hard disk as much as possible. Best way to do that is to use bootable OSs (Ubuntu Live, Hiren's Boot CD etc) because such systems load directly into the memory and do not require writing data to the HDD unless being told to do so.
