I have been working with Microsoft Office 365 32-bit installation on my laptop with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit for a long time, and now need to replace it with the 64-bit edition. However, I can't do this. I removed the 32-bit Office using its native installer or even with the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant according to the article Uninstall Office from a PC, but this didn't help. When I launch the downloaded online 64-bit Office installer (OfficeSetup.exe), it always throws this screen:
Obviously, there are remnants of the 32-bit Office installation in the registry or on the hard drive that prevents me from installing the 64-bit version. Does anybody know how to find and remove them manually? Or is there another automated way to get rid of the previous 32-bit Office installation to install the 64-bit version instead?

If you go to the EPLAN website and read the official instructions on how to install EPLAN, they will lead you to believe that you can install EPLAN using a 32 bit version of MS office, but then they never seem to explain to you how to do that! In this post I will explain how to get EPLAN up and running with or without MS Office or SQL.
The EPLAN Platform, Version 2.7 will be delivered as a 64-bit version only. Office 32-bit can still be used, however, SQL or SQL Express will then be needed for the parts database, the translation database and the project management database.

I needed both the 32-bit and the 64-bit adapters to cover my various use cases. I started by installing the 64-bit Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable. If you have ever attempted this, you know there is a secret. You cannot install the 2010 Access database engine with a different processing architecture (bittedness) from your Office install (or install both versions of the 2010 Access database engine) without a workaround. If you try, you will get an error message.

I have 64-bit Office installed and am running Visual Studio 2019 with SSDT and the SSIS extension installed. VS and SSDT and the SSIS Extension I believe are all 32-bit applications and I could not read an Excel file. Your second option above works. (install from the command line with the /quiet option. /passive yielded the same error. /quite succeeded!!! THANK YOU. Mike
