Hi all,

In our meeting yesterday we agreed:

1. To consolidate all core styles from original OU ICE (http://
www.open.ac.uk/webstandards/), my test area (http://www.open.ac.uk/
webstandards/experiments/ouicev2/), the employer site (http://
www8.open.ac.uk/employers/) and the Headscape stuff (http://
ou.headscapedev.com/09/). To create

a) screen.css
b) print.css
c) library.js
d) scripts.js

Plus..

e) ie.css file to filter out IE6 and below.
f) ie7.js to bring older browsers up to scratch: http://code.google.com/p/ie7-js/
-- but do we host this or do we link to code.google.com?

We need to talk to Steve Bannister about how the header and footer CSS
and JS will be served up in the new world. Are they are a part of the
OU ICE css and js file and/or their own entities?

2. To keep the hs prefix on the headscape styles as well as bringing
them into the core css sheet (but changing the styles where
appropriate to fit with the current thinking)

http://ou.headscapedev.com/09/existing.htm

3. To use a PNG24 for the OU logo in the header rather than jpg. To
use PNG24 instead of GIF as a general principle and PNG32 instead of
transparent gif as a general principle. To treat IE6 differently -- to
either remove all PNG32 files from display or to replace them with
PNG24 equivalents. There are specific implications for the footer with
this. We are going to come up with something elegant to ensure IE6
users have a reasonable experience of the OU brand. As a general
principle we are not "dumbing down" the experience for standards
complaint browsers in order to have a consistent experience across all
browsers like IE6. Take the lack of rounded corners in IE as a good
example of this currently.

4. To have two flavours of OUICEv2 -- 1. ice (blue), 2. neutral
(grey). The standard ice is the blue tints and tones but for
exceptional cases, sites will be able to use a grey flavour in order
that their colour schemes do not clash. We are going to experiment
with OU Africa which has a more black feel where the blue doesn't
suit. The 'neutral' scheme will be activated by adding the "neutral'
class to the body element.

5. To quickly fix on the blue tints and tones for standard ICE. To
consider the default blue as well as work done in WOIL and original
Headscape schemes.

6. It has been decided that the "tab" design as shown here is the way
we're going to do the top nav: http://www.open.ac.uk/webstandards/experiments/ouicev2/section-nav.php

7. We are going to agree on the design of the context / side nav and
sub nav asap.

8. We are also going to revisit the active and hover state colours in
the org-header

9. The standard OU header and footer outer div elements will have #org-
header and #org-footer IDs added to them. The main document outline
will therefore be:

body
- div#org
-- div#org-header
-- div#site
--- div#site-header
--- div#site-body
---- div#page
----- div#region0 *
----- div#region1
----- div#region2
----- div#region3 *
--- div#site-footer
-- div#org-footer

* optional

10. To chat with reps from AACS about their concerns about file size,
format, performance and hosting.

11. To deprecate #ou-content in favour of linking the skip to content
link direct to #site-body. So both the link to skip content and "back
to top" go to #site-body.

Did I miss anything?

Guy.
