Dear friends and concerned OU denizens,

I am writing to announce the launch of a new student group: OU Students Against Fracking! As I'm sure many of you know, fracking is a very real threat to our home in Athens County. Nearly a third of the county's land has already been leased, with four waste injections wells already in place and another on the way.
Moreover, with the new legislation, public land is also open to lease. This means that Strouds and the other parks and nature preserves that surround our campus, even our own land (including satellite campuses and the Ridges), are subject to potential leasing and drilling. This is NOT okay.

Therefore, a number of committed activists have opted to create OUSAF, and we ask you to join our cause. If you are getting this e-mail, it is because you are a member of a group whose interests align with ours or because you have expressed interest in social/environmental justice issues. In short, it is because you care, and it is high time that those of us on campus who care organize and work to protect our home from the environmental and health risks associated with fracking.

The first official meeting of OUSAF will be Thursday, January 26th at 8pm in the Leadership Center on the Third Floor of Baker Center. Please join us at this meeting so we can get to work kicking ass!

Please forward this to anyone you think may be interested in this cause.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail me. I look forward to working with you!
