Hey Danielle et al,
CFI stands for Community Food Initiatives. It is a small food education and advocacy non-profit in Athens and we're pretty rad! Our whole point is to foster the grassroots self-sufficiency, food security thing that's happening in Athens.
We work on a lot of different projects. Through the Donation Station, which you've probably seen collecting produce and $ at the FM, we work for alleviating hunger. We work with students and lunch ladies in public schools, exposing kids on how to eat more healthy,
local food and push to have it included in cafeterias. We coordinate workshops on (a hopefully comprehensive) food skill set, seed to plate for the public. We are also instigating community gardening efforts outside the city limits.
So yeah, it's sounding pretty sweet right? If you want to get involved: like us on facebook (
https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/40213307354/), become a member if you want (25$ gets
you into all the workshops without charge or volunteer IOU's), shoot an email to our director at
c...@frognet.net, or get a hold of me!
and if you want to volunteer we have really, really cool stuff happening this winter.
Namely, it's my job to track down more old-timers around here who have been saving seeds so we can plug them in with younger growers (like you and me), and cultivate genetic diversity and veggies that are adapted to the local terrain and climate. Then we'll
network 'em in through have a 2012 Seed Saving Inventory. If you know anyone who'd be into working on this during winter break or next quarter, please let me know.
Hi Badger,
Please let me know if there are any other CFI workshops coming up. What is CFI?

Please help me generate a buzz on our workshops. If you have any guerilla marketing tips besides, I'm all ears.
And something to ponder:
CFI is soliciting workshop suggestions for next year. What do you want to LEARN? What skills do you want to TEACH? It's time to start up a dialogue, because we want to help you learn whatever food skills you desire.
From seed to plate, any step in between; let us know.
