First of all I would like to thank Daniel Cid and Third Brigade for the great presentation on OSSEC HIDS (http://ossec.net/) at our last meetup! Personally, I run OSSEC to monitor my web infrastructure and I consider it to be a critical piece of my NSM architecture.

You definitely don't want to miss this month's meetup, where Ottawa's own, Mike Sues, will be sharing his knowledge of reverse engineering. Here are the details for October:

Topic:
Intro to Reverse Engineering
Mike Sues, GCIH
CEO & Ethical Hack Specialist
Rigel Kent Security & Advisory Services Inc

"We'll review the two different modalities of reverse engineering, static and dynamic reverse engineering,  how they interact, and the common tools (e.g. IDA PRO, Olly Debug) for performing each phase. Through demonstrating the tools we'll touch upon different goals for reverse engineering such as malware analysis, vulnerability research, cryptographic algorithm verification/recovery or searching for engineered vulnerabilities/backdoors."

After the presentation, we'll have plenty of time for Q&A, as well as our
usual discussion on current topics, threats and tools.

Where:

The Clock Tower Brew Pub, 575 Bank St (Bank at Pretoria). We'll be in the room downstairs.

When:

Monday, October 27 at 7:00 p.m.

Contact:
Dale Neufeld (canuck.eh [at] gmail.com) or Mike Sues (msues [at]
rigelksecurity.com). RSVPs are appreciated so that we can make proper
 arrangements with the pub.
