| Hi all, I might splurge on the Green Earth's tofurkey meal for thanksgiving ($44) or I might try my hand at making my own tofurkey. Anyone have any tried and true recipes? And if you have any side dish recipes that are delicious as well (e.g., vegan mashed potatoes...mmmm) Thanks! Tracey |
Well., Thanksgiving dinner is a little like Christmas… and here is what I did with the Tofurky meal then http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=58714&id=504907777&l=108e7d9226
I also enjoy the Commensal Seitan Pie as a kind of Vegan Tourtiere. (though they should leave out the potatoes IMO.)
Also in the FB photo album I have posted above is the vegan Nelakee Half Chicken which is another alternative… though I enjoy the Nelakee Mushroom Chicken more – it tastes to me like turkey. I am low or out of stock on those items at the moment though. Thanksgiving sounds like a good reason to restock. Hoping to get rid of more current stock first though.
I know there are recipes people have for homemade “roasts”… but I personally like to keep the cook-work reduced.
Mashed potatoes… I prefer the taste of Yukon Gold to anything, and like to throw in some garlic cloves in while boiling and mash with a little oil. Another item to mash in to get creaminess is sour supreme.
I love the curried cheese sauce, can be used on various veggies….
Melt 2
T butter
Blend in 2 T flour, 1 t curry powder, 1/4 t salt, 1/4 t pepper
Cook until bubbly and smooth
Stir 1 cup plain soymilk
Heat to boil stirring constantly
Boil and stir 1 minute
Stir in 1 cup(half package) chopped Vegan Gourmet Mozzarella until melted. (you
really may as well double the recipe ;)

http://twovegansisters.blogspot.com/ says “OMG - the Pot Roast from Vegan Lunch Box was to die for. I will be making it at both Thanksgiving and Xmas this year. I added cut up new potatoes to the carrots and really didn't think either would be cooked by the time this was done but surprisingly they were! I'll try to eat this up in one sitting since my leftovers seemed to revert to a raw state...it was weird. But with hungry vegans around the festive table I'm sure I won't have any issues with having it all eaten up!”
Sadly I couldn’t tell you the recipe….
Wow… nevermind, you can find it in full here: http://books.google.com/books?id=Oh542AeafuIC&pg=PA185&lpg=PA185&dq=the+Pot+Roast+from+Vegan+Lunch+Box&source=bl&ots=fBunyWYVIu&sig=QC-4pa8oQ3xCmC1d39t0K25YQ0k&hl=en&ei=BwDJSv71B8nhlAeytNiSAw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=5#v=onepage&q=the%20Pot%20Roast%20from%20Vegan%20Lunch%20Box&f=false hope that link works….
