Hi everyone.

A local activist has signed Ottawa on to be part of the annual fundraising benefit Walk For Animals, with all proceeds going to Farm Sanctuary! This is a fun event and a major fundraiser for Farm sanctuary. They use the money towards their advocacy and education programs, as well as for direct care for the thousands of resuced animals they take care of on their two farms in New York and California. If you are not aware of Farm Sanctuary please visit their website here: http://www.farmsanctuary.org/. You can also visit their farms, and the one in Watkins Glen, New York is only a 5 hour drive from Ottawa.

Farm Sanctuary: Rescue, Education, Advocacy

The Ottawa Walk For Animals will take place on September 26, 2009, starting outside the Green Earth restaurant at 354A Preston Street.

You must register in advance through Farm Sanctuary: go to http://www.firstgiving.com/farmsanctuary to register online.
**You can still register and help raise money without participating in the Walk** We have spoken to some people who are out of town the day of the walk, but you can still help with fundraising, and by registering you will still receive a Walk For Animals t-shirt. You can raise money online or collect it from friends and family. we will be sure to get someone to meet you to pick up the funds raised and have it sent to Farm Sanctuary.

On the day of the walk, September 26th, arrive at Green earth Restaurant by 2PM to get your t-shirt and hand in any donations you may have gathered.

The Walk is from 2:30-4:30PM (this is just an estimate - the Walk is about 6km long and includes a 20-minute rest/bathroom break about halfway). The walk is fun and helps to raise awareness of farm animal issues. Stay with us after for a meal at the Green Earth restaurant.

The government parking lots at the NRCan Campus between Rochester and Booth is available for weekend parking free! They would prefer that we use the lots that are along Orangeville St. (which runs parallel to the Queensway, on the south side of the Q-way, the Rochester ramp from the Q-way puts you right onto Orangeville). It is just a matter of walking up Aberdeen to Preston, to get to Green Earth.

There is also a parking lot at Beech Street and Preston. $3 flat rate all day Saturday and it looks large enough to accommodate well more than 100 cars! A 2-minute walk to the Green Earth.

Please email Anne at ott...@walkforfarmanimals.org for more information.
